So far we change filter every month, bought cleaning tablets, descaling tablets, milk cleaning mini tablets and new milk tube. All in about $120/yr.

The tablet/cleaning solution isn't that expensive. There's quite a few off brands that work very well and highly rated such as urnex on Amazon.

The issue in my opinion with Jura is that after some time, residue/oils will build up no matter how much you clean/maintain it. Other machines such as the meile allow you to completely disassemble the unit including the "dispenser". The meile won't be as "pretty" but in my opinion and experience; it's a much better unit in the long run.

I bought E8 for $1600 at Costco 2 years ago. Absolutely the best coffee I've ever had. The maintenance cost is negligible. I fill the tank with filtered water instead of using the expensive in tank filter. I use aftermarket cleaning tablets and fluids.
We ended up using the milk system mostly when we have guests and need multiple drinks fast. Otherwise Nesresso Aerochino foams milk better and is easier to clean.

Finally a good deal on coffee machine at a good price. I have never seen such a good machine so cheap, this is a steal at $3000 so $2000 is unheard off. The machine will pay for itself in 10 years.
A steal at $3000? Umm yeah, no. Don't forget to build a kitchen window to show it off to your neighbors too, Jones's

I bought a Jura 10 years ago and use it non stop. It still works 10 years later!
We make about 10 espressos a day across the family.

I do clean it with the official tablets and I use third party water filters off of amazon

Jura says you dont need to descale if you use water filters. I have only descaled once for the heck of it.

I do have some comments. I dont use the milk frothing etc... I just make espessos. Cleaning the milk is a pain. If I was to do it again, I wouldnt buy this expensive model, but I would just get their cheaper espresso only version. They all use the same brewing hardware.

Coffee is very inexpensive. You will save quite a bit and it pays itself in a year vs a daily starbucks

I know people down voted the person that said "...if you have to ask..." but I think what they are trying to say is that the maintenance costs can be quite a bit more than anticipated. We have to change the filter in our S8 every month and that's on top of the milk tablets and cleaning tablets. You can get away with using offlabel products but the filter is a smart filter that cannot be off label.

However, while the recurring maintenance costs are more than we realized before purchasing, as well as dealing with cleaning the milk system everyday, this thing is great as probably the best espresso machine you can buy for home use. Yes, you can theoretically make better coffee and milk In a more manual machine from a company like Breville, but not consistently, and not easily.
I have an older model where they dont have smart water filters. No one has hacked that yet?

Since this is from Costco, any advice for bulk beans at Costco that aren't too oily for this machine? Any suggestions for non-oily decaf options? I'm Costco wouldn't be a good option since they only have 1 or 2 varieties.
Stick to any medium roast and you will be fine. I switched to organic a few months ago after reading how many pesticides they use. I am using kirkland organic at the moment. Great beans

How much you need to pay for maintenance each year? Do you need to change parts (filter, brewery compartment) once a while?
Maintenance costs aren't much. I don't use the Jura filter or their cleaning products because they're way too expensive.

I use "Urnex Alkaline Rinza" liquid milk frother cleaner, "Urnex Cafiza E46" tablets for the brew group and Citric Acid powder to descale.

Cafiza E46 are $22 for 100 (3.6 gram) tablets and should last a few years --100 cleanings (1 tablet per cleaning). Jura recommends performing a brew group cleaning every 180 brew cycles. The machine will tell you when to do a cleaning.

Citric Acid powder is $8-$10 for 2lb -- Should last a few years. I use 2 Tablespoons in 16oz water to descale. Citric Acid also has other uses around the house.

Rinza liquid milk frothing cleaner is $22 for 33oz -- 66 cleanings (1/2oz per cleaning). Yearly cost depends on how many milk based drinks you make but at the most will be 1 cleaning per day.

-Hope this helps

No, but you don't need a filter. You can use descaling tablets at the same intervals (about once a month for me) and these are significantly cheaper, but the process takes a while.

Even though I only pour filtered water in the tank I will still alternate between replaying the filter and descaling so the machine doesn't get too mad at me.

I have this machine as well. What is your favorite coffee to use for this. I had some mixed results with various beans and could use some ideas.
Taste is subjective. I don't like citrus flavors, I prefer a rounder, smoother chocolatey flavor. Lavazza Qualita Rosa and Mayorga Mayan blend are good. I'm gonna try Ruta Maya medium roast next, my local Costco has it for $15 for a 2.2lb bag. Stumptown Founder's blend was also pretty good, it has a chocolatey berry flavor not a citrus flavor.

I don't have this model. I have a Jura Z6 that uses the same grinder and brew group so the coffee should be very similar.
For black coffee I use the "Coffee" drink option at 5.5oz, "Medium" grind size, "4 bean" strength.

I'd stay away from oily dark roast beans. They clog up the grinder and grounds chute.

I hate this sort of answer. It's very narrow minded.

I don't care what I'm buying, I will always find out the maintenance costs for proper upkeep. Doesn't matter if it's a $10 product or $100k product. It doesn't mean I can't afford it. It just means I'm a conscientious buyer who asks all the questions.
Dang, I wish I had your time to investigate every product I buy, but I do my best. With that said - I own this and use it a lot. 2-15+ cups a day total for the 2 of us, essentially I have to fill it more than once a day, but more than 2x is rare, unless family is over then the sky is the limit. I did Burn out the heating unit in less than 3 months, but did a Costco return/buy. Going through the Costco replace was not going to work out for me (but that's a different story). moving on - The maintenance costs are pretty annoying , 120$ a year ? I haven't done the math. My problem - and it goes back to my first sentence , is the 5-10 min. an evening for cleaning, it's a real buzz kill , and the 20+ min. monthly cleaning - man, I do it , but I really feel I have better things to do with that 20min. with all that said, the cappuccinos are great as well as the other drinks . This leads to my Final point- if costco ever got in the Giga 10 or the Z10, I would buy those in a heart beat. fyi - we only use Twin Cities Dark Roast - from Peace Coffee.

Is it a lot of work maintaining it? I don't care about the cost. Just whether I have to do physically a lot.
That's a good question.

It really depends on how you much you use it. I have to change filter and run a cleaning cycle once a month but someone else here said they only needed to do it every 3 months. But these things are not too laborious. You just pop in a new filter for replacement. For cleaning, you just pop in a tablet and put a glass where coffee and milk comes out and the machine does all the work.

The only thing that seemed hard at first to me was the milk cleaning. At least once during any day you made a milk drink (like latte or cappuccino, or my favorite - flat white), you have to use milk tablets in a special container with water that flushes out the milk system. You can watch this process online. Breville even made a video comparing this to their Oracle machine to make it look like this takes a while. But it's really not, once you get used to it and everyone here would probably take this over a Breville any day.

You don't need to buy the filters either. I buy commercial cleaning tablets from coffee industry. The jura ones do work really well. I do notice with my giga, I drink dark roast and need to clean the brew unit out more often or the flavor gets bland.

Jura's RFID on the filters is fn annoying. The EU filters are larger but the RFID will stop the machine from operating with them.

Also regarding milk cleaning. I usually just run water then maybe once a week use the cleaning pellets.

You can get a factory refurbished Z8 for under $2500. The Z8 has dual heaters. Juras are much cheaper in Europe, about half the price. You can get a new Z10 for around $2000 shipped from Europe but they are 220volt machines and you'll need a 110volt to 220volt converter and the converter will take up some counter space.

This will probably be a joke post with not so serious answers, but any coffee aficionados have a recommendation on a good top-loader coffee machine that holds beans and will grind for you? We have our breville Nespresso machine which is great for single-cup, and we also use ground coffee in a basic $30 mr. coffee pot, but we would love to do away with the coffee pot and have a nice coffee grinder "nice coffee" machine.

Not sure what these run. Maybe $500 or less for our first one?
