Deal Details
Looks like T-Mobile is offering a hidden $10 hotspot plan ($15 before Auto pay). This is for consumer and business accounts. It's for BYOD hotspot devices only and connected laptops (so no phones or tablets). Looks like you will have to contact T-Mobile to get this. There will be a $35 activation fee as well. See the attached flyer and link for more info.

= nevermind. it's in the reddit thread that says it works even if you don't have an existing Tmobile line.

I'm a verizon customer, can i get in on this deal?

Can they tell if you put the sim on a phone, tablet, laptop, or hotspot?
Yes. Use someone like Visible that shows what kind of phone you're using with the SIM. Put the SIM in another phone, watch it update automatically on Visible's dashboard.

From my expierence, yes. I had 1 free line given to me as part of a promotion couple years back. I put the SIM in an LTE enabled iPad and it only worked for the first day. I called to ask what happened, and the rep said they temporarily blocked the line because they detected the SIM in a tablet and I don't have any tablet lines on my phone plan. YMMV.

I have a T-Mobile Galaxy tablet on an unlimited data plan (but only allows 10Gb of hotspotting per month) and can move that sim to an iPhone which as huge points out does everything except voice. So I wonder if this plan will provide a Physical sim that does the same thing and could be actually used in a phone?

OP...we need a SOC code!!!!
I have the biz $10 tablet line in an iPhone and use it with google voice. No issues. Google voice will get you voice calling.

What about Google voice?
Google voice would work perfectly with this.

Since you cannot use this plan with a tablet (or maybe you can, as I see the words "connected laptops" in the text of the promo) that has a sim.......what are the types of hotspots that would work? I am not familiar with that category of devices. What do I search for?
You can buy a Tmobile branded hotspot device on Ebay for $15.

Following the reddit link: if you activate at a Costco T-Mobile kiosk, they wave the $35 activation fee.

Reddit comment:
Got it - 3 lines at $10 with autopay. The number you provided worked; but they said they couldn't waive the activation charge of $35, but stores might be able to to.
Went into a T-mo store but they also couldn't waive; they suggested I go to their kiosk at Costco (apparently activations through Costco are waived). 15 minutes later walked out with 3 activated sims / lines with no upfront charge; didn't need IMEI or any other detail other than personal id.

Tmo phone lines can't be used in tablets or anything else without hella throttling, Tmo tablet lines can be used in phones and other devices without issue, to some extent. Like if the tablet line includes 10gb of hotspot, then using it in another device will probably use that 10gb of hotspot data and then quit working.

Maybe you mean 50gb not 50mb?

Technically you can. If you have the hot spot device from T-Mobile you can just join the vehicle wifi to the device wifi. I was doing this for months but with an actually line sim so there were speed limitation for hot spot.

Also remember if you pay for one full year of premium connectivity it's only $99 with Tesla instead of the $9.99 per month but I understand why you would want a more general hot spot for other purposes and usages not tied to a vehicle.
