I thought I knew more about audio than the average audiophile, but you are over my head. I only know nitrates as fertilizers and preservatives linked with gastrointestinal cancers. What are we talking about nitrates here?
so, what would be a good entry level product in this category? I want to stream through my onkyo receiver/klipsch speaker system, but would be kicked out of the house if I spent 8 bills on a solution. Thanks in advance.
Wiim pro plus is around 200 and uses an excellent akm DAC. They also have cheaper models and by all accounts, their app is pretty good.

Read my review on amazon. Bottom line - for $110 less that normal price, this is excellent as a streamer digital out. Its DAC is just so so, but you can buy this and get a dedicated DAC later or use your dedicated DAC. For the price, its sound beats everything out there except for the discontinued Wyred 4 sound modded Sonos connect, which it is equal or slightly better. Highly recommended.
You'll need an amp like Fosi for an additional 50-70. Then you're set. It'll be 1/3 the cost of this. The DAC in the Wiim is fine but not the best. It's a nice little machine though. Use this stetup in my kitchen with a couple of passive speakers and small powered sub
Still looking for a group blind test of DAC's to prove it's not snake oil 🐍
You can do this yourself and blind tests have been done before. Just get at least two different DACs and have someone hook them up for you and switch them for you. It's not really that hard to tell the difference unless your other stuff isn't good enough.

Wiim Pro.
I just got the Wiim and love it. I used it with a Schitt DAC that I got for $50 and JBL studio monitors.

You have any links to any double blind tests where the analog outs were measured to be exactly the same volume and someone could 100% tell them apart?

Edit: leaving original for comedic value, but I definitely meant bitrate not nitrate.

The software is atrocious with dozens of releases and some of the worst bug management I've seen.
Hardware wise the specs are fantastic for the price but the software is so annoying I returned mine and went back to my Arcam ST60.
It's a segment changer so hopefully some alternatives pop up that are as affordable, but with some semblance of stability.
