Nice…looks like it's the final push to get rid of old stocks. This is very tempting…anyone have insights on this or the 7800xt - I think the 7800 goes for between $550 - $600.

The 6950xt performs better by like a 5% margin, very small difference. The 7800 xt can be had for ~ $500 which was actually the launch price.

Last week, Microcenter had a deal for these cards that purchase with a CPU bundle added a $50 discount. I'm waiting for that to come back, and then I'd get a 5800X3D to replace my 3700X and this card- that'd be a nice upgrade for sub $1K

7800 XT is about 5-10% slower as mentioned, but it's also been seen under $500, drawing 72 watts(21%) less on average, and better ray tracing capacity. I would recommend the 7800 XT 10 times out of 10 for the price. Just picked up a 7800 XT Phantom and it's been working well in games and productivity, no driver issues to mention so far.

i have the 6950XT ref (brought it used for 475$) i kinda wished i got the 7800XT too. New tech similar performance (will probably get better with driver updates). and since it uses less wattage the coil whine probably wont sound so bad.

The 7800 will also have longer driver support, if that matters to you.

7800XT if you pay for your own electricity.

Side note: 6950XT was a small improvement over the 6900XT which in and of itself was not a big performance jump over the 6800XT. The 6800XT was THE card to get last gen and if I didn't have a 3080 right now I'd scoop one of the many sub $400 6800XT cards I've been seeing for sale as the performance differences are still pretty slim between the 6800XT and 7800XT in the games I personally play (Forza, games with RT off, etc.)... approximately 3% difference on average https://www.techpowerup.com/revie...xt/32.html

I bought my 7800XT for $519 earlier in the week. Tom's charts show the 6950XT has about a 10 FPS advantage across all resolutions in synthetic benchmarks, over the 7800XT.

Not to throw another variable in there, but the 6800XT is $399 and only about a 4 FPS drop off for, the 7800XT.

Depending on how much you value the FPS, it might be worth it to you, to go with the 6950XT.

One other note though, AMD added Hardware Accelerated GPU Scheduling to the 7800 and above drivers. This could eliminate that gap in performance for a lot of scenarios as it improves FSR and AI Frame Generation. That feature was only recently added to the AMD drivers in the past week. So all the current benchmarks are likely behind the curve.

Oh and one last point, the 7800XT pulls ahead of all 6000 series cards when you turn Ray Tracing on, so the new driver feature is only going to make that worse. It should also be noted that the RT features aren't nearly as far behind NVidia as previous generations.

So, all things considered, I would grab the 7800XT for $519 at Best Buy. That should also make those who aren't near a Microcenter happy that they're not missing out.

na the 7800xt is basically a new 6800xt. They perform very similar.
a 6950xt would be higher. Driver updates won't make them much quicker.
The power usage is higher but try undervolting, and you can always limit the max MHz speed

gpu scheduling doesn't do anything for game performance..
It just offloads the cpu on very basic scheduling tasks which aren't demanding anyway

Uhh, nvidia uses it to assist frame generation, so look that up first.

Oh and you're wrong. More efficient handling of system resources does directly affect game performance. Lower latency and high FPS.
