You can definitely use soap on cast iron these days.

The lodge 10" (with straight walls) also on-sale at $19.90, about 1lb heavier.

Cast iron need to be (re-)seasoned and a little oil to cook. My 10yr old well-seasoned lodge can cook eggs with no problems -- I have yet to have any other nonstick last more than a couple of years.

My cast iron skillets are the absolute easiest to clean and I have no need or desire to use soap.
You need to learn how to properly season cast iron thru use and nothing will stick to them, just like teflon, but without the health issues.
A rinse with water while slightly warm (not hot) and a wipe with a paper towel gets them perfectly clean the vast majority of the time. Then a thin layer of oil.

Usually I just scrub it out with a nylon brush. It's pretty simple, actually.

These are hard to cook with. Eggs stick to the pan
Cast iron is easy peasy and slicker than teflon once you learn how to cook on it and keep the skillet well seasoned thru use. Temperature of the skillet and it being properly seasoned are key.

I cook eggs at least 3 times each week, mostly over-easy or over-medium, and sometimes scrambled or in an omelette, and have been doing this for decades and the eggs slide on the skillet as if it were teflon. Practically nothing sticks.
It's really not hard at all to learn how to cook on cast iron.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but my long used, well seasoned cast iron isn't really non-stick. Of course, I tend to need to scrub it after searing meat at high temps. But if it wasn't for that one application, I would never need to scrub it, just rinse and wipe with a little oil. Although, with the judicious use of fat, every pan can be a non-stick pan 😁

Same here. Mine needs a good scrub to get off the burned on bits after searing steak

You really can't sear a steak on a nonstick pan unless you want to destroy it. If you sear a steak in a cast iron pan make a pan sauce and it'll take off most of the stuck on bits. In general there will be at least a few bits of stuck on food but a few swipes with a non-scratching scotch brite sponge will take them off under running water. After that just dry it off with a paper towel and heat on the stove.

Just using it will season it. And whenever you bake something, throw the pan in with a new coating of vegetable oil to add a fresh layer of seasoning.

It's good to have a nonstick pan for maybe 10% of other cooking, but the cast iron pan will do the job that the nonstick pan can't. I really like Victoria cast iron pans because it has a longer handle compared to Lodge.

Folks, the idea that you can't use soap on cast iron is a myth.

If you are stupid enough to use dish soap, you are removing the seasoning and you don't know how to use cast iron right. Stick to your non-stick pans with the chemical non-stick coating. You might as well buff your car finish with a brillo pad too while you are at it.
Not only are you wrong, you're rather unpleasant in the process. I'm surprised there are still so many people afraid of using soap in their CI. Lodge literally TELLS YOU to use soap, it's printed on the instructions that come with the pan, lol.

There are some times where you won't need to use soap, since the pan is seasoned well and rather non-stick. But, you certainly can without hurting the pan, or the seasoning, at all. And if you do accidentally chip or remove some of the seasoning, you just re-season, it's very easy.
