Lego prices are so ridiculously out of touch it's crazy. This plastic board is $8 full price.

Why the Chinese haven't come up with a decent generic version to sell in dollar stores astounds me.

Funny you mentioned this. I went to China last month and they actually do sell a lot building blocks similar to Lego and for a fraction of the price!

Which makes sense. Maybe the mini figures is one thing, but the rest of the Lego concept seems ridiculously easy to copy. Especially a board as simple like this.

Also don't forget the "brand cost." Just like luxurious bags/shoes, they are expensive not only because of the material but also the brand itself.

Speaking purely on duplo and baseplates, generics on Amazon have worked great at a huge discount from authentic. Just purchased a 12pack of these plates for $19. Still being shipped but for the price difference they'd have to be absolute trash not to be worth it

Can you share a link? My kids fight for these all the time and I don't have the heart to spend 50 bucks to buy the proper amount like I need to.

I purchased couple Chinese sets in past and they were trash. Bricks do not click, small movement and it fell apart. Wasted $20ish twice.

I have lego bricks from 17yrs ago which I purchased for my nephew and now my kids are playing with those. Perfectly click with new sets.

With Lego you are paying for quality (I agree prices are ridiculous now a days). Also, to manufacture these bricks in such a high volume and in most reliable manner is not easy.
