Cleavers have the knife edge so it does the normal cutting work. Its heft enables heavy chopping. Its wide surface enables scooping for food transfer and mashing. Its blunt reverse side is good for cracking things and allows for pushing down with both hands. Its shape makes it less prone to breaking than narrower knives.

On the flip side, due to its width, its length is limited to else it would be too heavy. The blade is also flat so it doesn't allow for fullers. Their points are close to 90 degrees so they only deal slashing damage rather than piercing.

The tang is a strip of metal that joins the blade to the handle. "Full tang" means the tang extends the entire length of the handle. This is usually a more durable design feature that greatly reduces the chance of a handle failure.

It doesn't appear to be full tang. But it is cheap. I guess I will buy 1.

Don't worry about that. The police will store it for you, in their evidence room.

Other than breaking bones, what purpose does it serve?
