It performs better at a much lower wattage, and rdna3 is better than rdna2.

What is awesome is the size of this card for those with smaller cases and looking to get an ATI card.
Very few cards at this performance level that is under 11"L

Solid price. People keep ignoring the AV1 hardware encoding on 7000 series, but spending 10% extra to be able to stream AV1 to YouTube, Discord, and eventually Twitch, is definitely worth it, imo. Not to mention the lower power draw compared to the 6800 XT. If you will *never* share your screen or stream, the value is also gone. But AV1 with low bitrates is so much clearer than h264, and Discord and Twitch in particular really limit the bandwidth you can use.

This sounds like an amazing deal at first glance, but performance-wise it is about equivalent or up to 10% better than a 6800xt.

This deal is about as good as the $440 6800xt deals that have been floating around for the past half a year or so. At one time, we even got Starfield with the 6800xt deal.

Pretty good deal, but not amazing.

Plus AV1 encoding/decoding and more immediate ML support that is starting to improve. ROCm could be coming to Windows in Q1/Q2 2024

I thought video encoder wise CPU > Intel >> Nvidia >> AMD/Qualcomm in terms of quality?

For archival purposes, yes. If you have a second computer, sure, use CPU encoding. Most people have 1 computer, in which case, you should not use CPU encoding unless you have something approaching HEDT, and even then. To make sure it doesn't interfere with other applications for livestreaming, use your GPU encoder. For AV1, yes, there are some differences but we are also discussing AMD GPUs here. If you want to pay more money for a 4070 or better and get Nvidia instead, go for it. Intel's GPUs do not compete on this level of performance. And most people don't have a modern enough Intel CPU to have AV1 as a codec in the iGPU. So for this performance tier, the 7800 XT is good, especially as it starts to fall below $500.

No deals for sure. I have decided on a 6800 (nonXT) 16GB for $380.

When it comes to RT for rnda2 and rDNA 3 is there much difference? They are starting to blend rt elements in even when you don't want any so we better be prepared for just shadows or software rt

If there is then it might make 7800xt better even though 6800xt just dropped but stock is so limited

I'd be all over this if I didn't need something even smaller and less power hungry. But lower prices, sizes and power consumption are all good trends to see in GPUs. Just too bad the 7600 turned out to be such a nothing-burger compared to previous gen. Fingers crossed that the higher VRAM 7600 XT becomes real

Lower wattage yes, performs marginally better and sometimes worse. Look up a YouTube review like hardware unboxed for some actual benchmarks

Great card. Will not betray and bottleneck you like 4070 does with its pathetic 12GB VRAM. Solid mid-range choice for the next 3-4 years.

I don't know whether the OP was suggesting lower wattage via undervolt, but this does perform well at much lower wattage if you manually set it to.

The 7800xt works pretty well at 200w if you lower the clock and power limit, to where it's competitive in performance per watt to the 4070 ti.

However, many people don't want to deal with custom profiles that has to be regularly reapplied, and there's always the silicon lottery to play.

But out of the box, not much efficiency between rdna2 and rdna3.
