We have teenage sons with special needs that can't tie shoes. I think their teachers would be happy if we purchased these. Its always hard to find velcro in adult sizes, these are less ugly than the New Balance walking shoes.

Sure you can. But if you want laces, just go to Michael's, Hobby Lobby or JoAnne's Fabrics and get a leather punch. Use a seam ripper to remove the velcro straps, lay out the holes for laces, punch them and put laces in. If you're really cheap, pull out your drill and a 3/16" bit and forgoe the punch.
