There is a Sonic Mustang for $139, which is tempting. But if you are considering it, you should certainly take advantage of Musician's Friend's Stupid Deal of the Day, which is the Bullet Mustang for $129. It is a better guitar, with the same pickups/electronics but with a forearm contour and belly tuck body -- a deluxe feature that they completely removed from the new "Sonic" line that replaces the Bullets. (The name improved and there's some new colors, but the guitars themselves are not better.)

But there are some real deals over there right now. Thanks!

I always suggest shopping with the kids if possible. Set a budget and take your kids to the music shop. Let them look around & find something that inspires them in the price range. The best guitar is one that motivates you to want to play it.

I disagree with the advice to buy Amazon or other cheap knockoffs. You want her to have a guitar she likes and likes the feel of. My son started on a Squier and it held him just fine until he upgraded in high school. Go shopping with her, Ibanez, Squier, something like that will serve her well.

Oh man… I was actually going to pick up a Player acoustasonic, as they were showing for around $540 in my cart this morning, but it looks like it was a pricing error (Fender had the msrp listed below $1k, and I mistakenly assumed they finally lowered the price of the things). Kinda kicking myself now for not snagging it earlier.

Can someone please recommend what to buy for my 14-year-old, who has never played any guitar and wants to learn. She is interested in electric, not acoustic. Thanks!

Cheap acoustic electric bundles on amazon come with amps, etc. I'm also a newbie and no beginner will care about sound quality for the first year...but when she finds out that the cables and amp are a PITA to move around, etc. the fact that she can go acoustic will come in more handy than she would expect.

I bought this acoustic electric for travel and found the quality of not only the guitar but also the case to be surprisingly high. Comes with a pre-amp...get yourself the little amp on Slickdeals today and you're all set.

There's another thread with a Squire Classic Vibe 70's Strat for $300 is a pretty nice option. The CVs are a great starter guitar that will last her for a while.

Doesn't come with an amp or other accessories would be the only downside but you can pick up a cheap practice amp pretty easy.

If she really plans to keep playing, don't skimp and buy those bundles with the little tiny amp. You'll be re-buying everything in a year. You can find good deals on FB marketplace and Offer up if you don't mind used.

Right off the bat; the Sonic Strat has a picture of a nice 22 fret neck; but the specs say 21. And say 9.5 radius with C shaped neck. Slim C? So who knows what your going to get?

The pick guard is 1-ply.

Ceramic pickups; which are fine; but you can get for less.

And body of Poplar wood. Not tonally preferred by some; but it's minor, for cost savings and not as light as Basswood.

The damn thing is a hard tail (HT). Which we get into folks claiming preference for that crap. As if there is no way a floating trem can be adjusted for stability when the nut is optimal. And folks who don't know good strings need to be stretched in before tuning stability. The whole HT thing is just sad and preying on ignorance. A major component of a classic Strat is the floating tremolo. And even then it can be tightened down with two screws to cripple it like a hard tail if you disagreed.

And THIS is the "resell value" you expect? LOL.

Plus anyone claiming a Squire (CV included) has on average better build quality and separately better setup than other select brands is blowing smoke.

FYI
Better off with a Monoprice Indio strat, Monoprice tube amp, and CUBE BABY pedal... right?

Can anyone comment on the Nashville Telly? 300 seems good?
