Came across this link via google when looking for cards with best restaurant cash back. Somehow stumbled across this 100k SUB + 10x on dining for 6 months (unto $25k - meaning potentially additional 250000 points)
I see 150k points but no 10x dining bonus.
Any experience with either to justify the annual fee?
(Let's make things interesting. I also have the venture x with annual fee for $400)

I have a platinum, you only want a platinum like having a Costco membership, but the membership is for perks when travelling. The perks are amazing, but if you are not traveling for work (your work allows you to use you own card), its really not worth it. The AMEX credits for purchases on Dell, Columbia, Nike, UA purchases just a nice bonus during holidays, but the sole reason for having a PLAT card is for travel and boogies credits during travel/lodge. Annual fee is $695 now for one card holder. American express is the Costco business model for luxury travel - Nuff said.

You thought the Amex plat was a no annual fee card?
ofcourse nope. i just didn't like that $700 fee wasn't mentioned in the post which makes the card $300-$400 value which is bad offer compared to other cards out there with high bonus and no to very low fee

I have both too. Amex requires more babysitting to ensure you get the annual fees worth out of it. The main reason I have Amex is because of their centurion lounges that I use about a dozen times a year.
If I were you and only saw 150k bonus without the 10x dining and no easy access to the lounge - I wouldn't bother.

I likewise have the Venture X and Amex Plat might be worth it if I didn't have the Venture for lounge access. I don't travel much where Centurion lounges are so there's not getting around slumming in PP lounges when I fly coach (which is most of the time). Plus, I'm certain I've gotten a Platinum bonus in this geological epoch, so I'm not eligible for a another one. I would have to be up for GlobalEntry this year or want a Clear membership (not really worth it) and be using all of their reimbursed services to make it worth while (I don't pay for streaming, my grocery store is 6 blocks away, I rarely need Uber, and I cook better than most takeout).
FWIW, I don't count a $10,000 hotel night or a First Class leg on Emirates for 200k points as 5c/point because I would never pay that kind of money for a stay/flight, and even good point redemptions like FlyingBlue sales are often no better than 1.2-1.5c/point if you're a good planner and include tax and surcharges. I've never paid more than $700 for a transatlantic RT in coach, or $1200 for business, and most of those flights with points have $300-500 in taxes and fees. A "free" transatlantic for even 40k points isn't all that wow when it has $350 in taxes, and I could have paid $750 for nominally the same transit (rescheduling fees/refunds notwithstanding).

Sorry for the rant...it just spilled out.
