TU for your caution about PS....and Dell most likely using proprietary PS

I remember the good ol' days when their XPS 8930's were this price (or lower) with a nice dedicated graphics card included. That was during the graphics card shortage too, which made it even better. You could sell the graphics card and end up with an amazing $200 machine. I'm typing this on one now. After that, it's hard to get too excited about deals like this one.

Am I an outlier for wondering who buys main PCs with 8 or 16 GB ram since the 00's ?
I still have an XPS with an original Core 2 Dual which had 32 GB new.

Everything is proprietary in this, but its a good buy for someone who wanted a PC with latest i7 and few upgradable components like RAM, SSD, HDD

Its always better to get the lowest RAM or SSD possible and upgrade ourselves.

I completely agree. Anyone who buys units maxed out already are overpaying.

You *can* get a better PSU through Dell, I believe 750 & 1000W (both 80+ Platinum), but it aint cheap. Can even be hard to buy through dell, IIRC, usually only offered during customizing PC on their website.

If this had the 750W PSU, I'd buy this in a heartbeat. AFAIK, this is the best XPS in regards to space/cooling since the 8900, which came out in 2015.

The 460W PSU is not a drawback. Modern Dell machines are 12 volts only and this rating is figured based on that. It's equivalent to an 800 W "traditional" PSU and will power all GPUs just fine.

Source: I own a Dell G5 with a 12 volt only PSU and it has ample power for even the highest powered GPUs.

Not according to Dell or the video card manufacturer(s)

How is this a good deal when you can get the same cpu, a nice asus prime z790 mobo and 32GB of memory for 549 from microcenter? (or even a better deal with amd cpu) I'm sure you can even get a prebuilt with standard components for this price with those specs.

Volts and watts are totally different units measuring different things. Nvidia recommends at least 850W PSU for the 4090 and AMD recommends at least 750W for the 6900XT. I would love for you to prove me wrong, so please -- source?

I'm on a Costco XPS 8920 running Win 10 Pro (included in the $899 price) upgraded to 11 Pro, with a GTX 1050ti and 64Gb RAM that was included. I don't game other than casual stuff, so it's more than adequate for my photo processing and every day use. No need for anything else til this rig croaks. I've certainly gotten my money's worth.

This is a good deal for people who can't build PCs and looking for a good name brand like Dell with Costco's 2 year warranty.

That's the catch on Dell website, if you try to go through fully-configurable option, discounts aren't good.
