S90C with it's far superior QD panel can be had for $2091 on samsung.com with EPP (educators, AAA, work, etc) discount stacked with a certain cashback app. A month or so ago that was $1800, so not the best price right now. Still enough to not want this TV though.

EDIT EDIT EDIT This appears to be gen 2 QD as now a screenshot of the service has been posted. Below is old info.

EDIT EDIT: This TV is a mystery. We only know for sure the original press release said WOLED by LG, then when it hit shelves, "Quantum" was quietly added to the item description. No independent testing has been done yet, but Rtings got one delivered Dec 7. No official word from Samsung on what panel it is (chat reps don't count).

My theory (speculation) is these are previously never released 77" Gen 1 panels. Why?

1) Uses a bit more power per specs than an S90C (Gen 1 was less efficient than Gen 2)
2) Only comes in 77" size (the only size never released during Gen 1 fabrication)
3) Probably low production numbers since it's only sold at Best Buy (Gen 1 had low yield issues which Samsung cited as the reason for no 77" QD TVs at first.)
4) They named it S89C implying it's somehow inferior to the S90C in the same way the S90C is to the S95C.
5) It doesn't makes sense to basically sell a S90C under a new name if it's wasn't somehow different to justify the different model number.

Before i get another comment about "Samsung never made a 77" gen 1" no, they never *released* a 77" gen 1. There's a very important distinction there.

🤦

Again, one more time this is QD-OLED! Not WOLED!

I own this TV, the guy quoting months old articles that are talking about the EU version does not. Again, in EU it was WOLED, in NA it is QD-OLED.

Here is the Canadian spec sheet, which shows it is QD-OLED. https://www.samsung.com/ca/tvs/ol...s89cbfxzc/

Wow, so maybe gen 2? 600+ is suppose to be gen 1 and 512 is suppose to be Gen 2 from my understanding? So 588?

Somewhere in between? Maybe these are underperforming gen 2 panels? Thats extremely likely given this finding.

No wait 512 is 65" It should be 588. Gen 2 confirmed. Buy away lads. Samsung was just drunk.

S95C with a Samsung discount program account is $2700 (7% CB with a certain app) right now, and you could probably talk a rep into free 2 year care still.

Almost make me regret getting the S90C for $1800 last month.
How much better is the s95c for a $1000 extra though? I have the s90c sitting in my cart for a week now (I missed out on the previous lower price), it's currently $2249 before that cashback.

Honestly I'm a little bummed it doesn't have Dolby Vision because I can notice a definite difference on my 55 G2 when I use that.
From what I understand, that's because G2's colors are not as accurate as the samsung's qd oled panels. Qd oled HDR is very close to the DV in LG panels.

All from what I have read about this though, and not actual experience.

If this S89c is just a rebranded s90c for BB then why even bother with the S90

Samsung wrote/created the royalty free alterative (IE competition) to Dolby Vision, thus why they won't add it to their TVs, i suspect. But like the other comment said, reviewers claim they don't see a difference on QD panels lacking DV.

HDR10 and HDR10+ are the royalty free version of Dolby that Samsung is pushing. From reviews I have seen HDR10 is good enough, Dolby has a slight edge. From what I have seen I hope HDR10 becomes the defacto standard over Dolby Vision. The difference between both is not enough for me to justify the added cost Dolby licenses are adding to the TVs that support it. HDR10 being open will also ensure the likelihood of it being implemented by other open source softwares.

Samsung is also challenging Dolby Atmos with a new open license rival. I do like Atmos and do notice a difference, but is good to have an open and free alternative. I doubt it will compete though, Atmos is just too established right now.

Since you skipped the 8 pages of comments, I'll catch you up. This was publicized through press release to have a WOLED panel by LG, hence my ordinal comment. People bought them, saw QD subpixels, and then Samsung and best buy quietly added "Quantum" to the item description. Other than that, we know nothing about this TV, nothing (like if it is the same screen as the S90C or not) has been confirmed by Samsung nor independent testing, yet.

So saying it has the same panel for certain (and not as a theory) is as bad as me saying it's a gen 1 panel fer certain (and not as a theory).
Samsung customer service reps have said 89C uses a Gen 2 panel. So it is not pure speculation.

Yes, because contract foreign call center employees with no real engineering knowledge would never just parrot the question asked with a "yes" to just try and close the sale and make the commission, right? /S

What's pushing you to get the s95c? I'm debating with my inner self if to get 77 s89c or s90c or just get the s95c 65inches and save me about 400 bucks
That's why I need to figure out.
I must compare & benchmark at home...

I know, but BB's Warranty is better. I just returned a 85QN95B after a backlight LED cell went out. Samsung's Warranty also doesn't cover burn-in. So after all said and done, BB is $200 more (even at the $2700 price on samsung.com), but has better and longer warranty (5 yrs vs 4 yrs) and I can return easier.

Picking one up now...sales rep kept telling me and my wife that the 89 is a lower quality holiday version that uses inferior parts and the 90 is what we should get... obviously I don't believe him, though.

It's BB's own brand, 'Magnolia.' It is identical to 90c. They are doing this because they can easily acquire the stock.

I'd probably rent a home depot pickup truck or uhaul before doing that. I have an SUV with the largest cargo area on the market and the 77" barely fit with all the seats down or removed. Pretty sure a driver would hate you.
How about the 65inch one? Will that fit? I don't drive so not much of an option.

Sounds like a sales guy saying gibberish that sounds right in his head and he is trying to see if the customer buys his gibberish laugh out loud

I usually challenge them asking them were they saw this info, or where they got that spec.

Those TVs will fit in la large SUV or minivan if you take them out of the box. Usually though the retail store will not accept the TVs back within the initial return window without a box. If you go the route of leaving the box behind, which I don't recommend, make sure to cut out the UPCs from the box and keep those.

Your other safe bet option would be to find someone with a pickup truck willing to do you the favor. U-Haul or HomeDepot were renting small trucks for around $19.99 without insurance.

The 77 fit fine in my minivan, if that helps
