2-pack kasa plugs were under $12 the other day.
Of course tastes differ, but for me convenience of an app would outweigh price difference and requirements of wifi.
Only 2 fixed cycles vs unlimited, with day of week and sunrise-sunset times available for programming is also nice

Just do a search for all the companies that have had major data breaches. From Equifax to Facebook, Target, eBay, Chase, Microsoft, T-Mobile, the list goes on. If you think your Kasa app is going to share info that hasn't already, or isn't already out there, I think you're not realizing what it means to be connected to the internet.

That's what separate guest networks on separate subnets are for... there is no reason for most iot devices to be on your normal network.

The grounded outlet and flexibility/connected nature of the Kasa plugs or other brand makes it worth it where there is wifi available.

This is an outstanding price, not seen in years perhaps, at least by me. I have several of these on lights for outbuildings, and I like the simplicity of use. Back in 2017, Hurricane Matthew caused me to lose electricity for 8 days; these Woods timers still displayed the correct time when power was restored. Repped.

This would be great for tasks in an environment where the app controlled smart outlets wouldn't work.

I can think of spaces like my sheds or barns. Especially cabins and lake houses that might benefit from a "dumb" switched outlet.

I could put this in my shed or barn so the lights come on for a few hours starting at at dusk. Yes, there are a lot of other options such as light sensors and such, but we don't need all the lights on, all night long.

For my smart outlets, I have them on their own vlan that cannot see the rest of the network directly.

I've got an old Kasa smart plug that loses it's programmed schedule if it loses power, like it doesn't have any persistent memory or save to the cloud/app which is inconvenient if you move the plug around or have an outage for any reason. Are other seeing the same thing or is mine just old...
