I bought an ESP LTD EC-1000FR from Sweetwater over another retailer because they claim to put the guitars through a 55 point inspection. I'm a consultant so extremely busy with frequent travel. That's why I wanted the peace of mind of buying something I knew was thoroughly checked.

When I got the guitar (a single cut Les Paul design), the pickup toggle switch didn't work. When I informed them, they basically expected me to go through a lengthy troubleshooting process I had no time for. So they basically wanted ME to do the "55 point inspection" after I bought the guitar that was supposed to have a "55 point inspection".

The right thing to do was just replace the guitar.

Most people interested in this pedal probably know this already but if you have to choose a place to buy this from, do yourself a favor and use Sweetwater.

Modded cheap pedals is an awesome Slick hobby to get into, high ROI. Get boutique sounds from basic mass production Boss and Ibanez pedals.

While this one is a factory mod, there are multiple options for this little orange pedal, which are everywhere for about $35 on the used market.

Check out the Keeley Seeing Eye mod. Another of my favorites is the mods for the blue Blues Driver pedal.

The parts cost next to nothing, usually under $2, and takes about 30 minutes to an hour of assembly and soldering. Great way to get into electronics mods and get some great tone for pennies.

Nice. And it looks like Guitar Center/Musician's Friend and Sweetwater have it for the same price.

Why sweetwater? Are the returns easier?

Sweetwater is not too large of a company (it doesn't seem like anyway) and they send candy and call to ask how your delivery went and if you received everything. If you plan on returning, I'd go through a different larger company so this one doesn't eat any costs.

Sweetwater is certainly much smaller than Amazon, but they're a giant in the space. I like buying from them when I need guidance, but it's fair to middling on other factors. I don't find their open box deals all that appealing, for example.

Agree. Sweetwater is a big tanker. I bet they are larger in volume sales than Guitar Center's cousin Musician's Friend.

In regard to pricing, you can get better deals and service (including pre-purchase photos) from independent smaller retailers especially in no sales tax states.

bought one just now. thanks. I've been looking at this and thought the right price for a used pedal should be $70-90. for a new at $100 is a deal. Also, the shipping seems to be extended a bit. slickdeals effect, I guess (pun intended).

The best thing about Boss pedals is their durability. They're almost entirely in that same rugged case, and the switches and such are all top notch.

I would also look on market place. Good place to get used pedals and boss pedals have a long life.

I'd go with B&H, they are family owned and always good to deal with.
