It has a spring on both the front and rear.
The springs are pretty weak. The Rear may need loading, and the front needs a support so it doesnt bottom out so hard. There's halfass methods and a 3d printed option on thingiverse.
This is a scooter meant for smoothed paved roads by waifs/children. Even the slightest sidewalk bump will make it sound like a shotgun as it slams the front wheel into the center bar.

Segway denied any support. Newegg wanted me to return the second one for a refund instead of a replacement with no option to pay the same deal price. I instead went with a "damaged in shipping" claim with newegg which technically wasn't a lie. UPS went through the claims process (had to send certain pictures of packaging) and they denied the claim because of the aforementioned crappy packing. I had already sent the old one back before UPS finished since Newegg wanted it, and had received another one that was practically new with less than 20 miles on it.
As everyone mentioned, there are "shocks" but they suck. Driving down a sidewalk all you hear is "clunk, clunk, clunk" as you ride over the expansion joints. This is also due to the solid wheel (airless). Just recently, the guard on the front wheel broke off while driving. Still fully functional though.
Overall, they're fun little machines for the price. I topped out at like 19.2 mph on mine.
