Just a fair warning, the base M3 does not allow for dual external displays. Only one external display allowed.

Ordered one, thanks OP.
PROs:
This is th best value laptop you can find with the M3 lineup:
This is a great deal, the new air with m3 will probably start at $1,100. Add 512 GB SSD and 16 GB ram will become $1,500. The M3 pro starts at $2k, I never seen it cheaper than $1,800.

Cons:
Compared to M3 pro models, it is weaker in terms of performance, there is one fewer usb-c port, no new black color, and supports only one external monitor.

Great deal for all the complaining about the 8GB RAM in the base stock config. This is a bump up to 16GB and cheaper too.

Exactly why I have a pro chip. The pro chip adds some nice features but 2 external displays is a must for my productivity

Is m3 pro base model sufficient to run 2 extra monitors without any kind of lag? Or would you recommend to get this version. And run 1 extra monitor without lag?

Then buy a air. Don't add confusion to the mbp line-up

See the post ahead of mine. Hes confused. Thats all apple is doing putting a non-pro chip in a device with pro in its name. I get it they are trying to replicate the intel i3, i5, i7, i9 (M3, M3 pro, M3 max, M3 ultra). Get that maximum income.
2 USB ports on the Air is limiting. As long as the Macbook is dead, having a base MBP with this offering is a good substitute. There is literally nothing wrong with offering their base model chips in here, as long as they would sell them with more RAM. Apple clearly shows off the delineation in their chips in every presentation, reviewers constantly benchmark the differences and tech sites regurgitate some combination of the two. It's not hard to figure out the tiering system, it's not hard to find a review of what you want to see. Why people think they shouldn't offer more choices to consumers is beyond me.

Contrast to the lies Nvidia has been spreading since Pascal about their mobile GPUs. There's the (mobile) version, the Max-Q version, and then some versions they claim are totally the normal SKU, but are actually cutdown dies. And even then, some with the same die are configured for completely different power draw depending on the manufacturer! *That* is what intentional confusion looks like to trick people into buying a laptop that actually sucks instead. Comparatively, this is easy. Know you need more than 16GB of RAM, or that you'll need more CPU/GPU power? Pro or Max chip. Good enough with anything but want a nice chassis and screen? Base M3. And they all perform exactly the same as the others of their kind, plugged in or on battery. Can't say the same of most x86 laptops.

Regular M3 can't output to two screens I believe. I thought this was a deal until I realized that.

Since this deal is M3 and not M3 Pro/Max, there are only 2 USB ports just like the MacBook Air. It does have the SD card slot and HDMI that the Air doesn't have.

Been eyeing the MacBook Air 15" for couple months now.. was waiting/hoping it drops to $ 1 k price, but never did (lowest I seen was $1100). Would you guys think this would be a better buy than MacBook Air? I'm a basic user with a MacBook Pro from 2016 that's showing its age.. TIA

I don't know for sure, but they are a publicly traded company and their website says they're a corporate reseller of Apple Products. 🤷 ♂️
They have been around for decades. They are legit or they would have lasted so long.

Reasonable estimates for M3 air pricing, but that will also have deals Smilie

Seriously? Also couldn't they also give TB4 instead of TB3. Tim Apple's a tightwad when it comes to his parts.
I don't remember where I read this, but the reason the lower end m-series chips don't technically have TB4 is because they don't support dual external monitors. And that's part of the tb4 spec. But they do have the rest of the speed and feature of tb4. They just can't call it a tb4 port. But on the higher end chips that do support dual external monitors they are called tb4. And that's the only difference.
