Why would you assume that? Why is it difficult to gauge? The m3 destroys m1 pro in single core performance, beats the m1 pro slightly in multicore. M1 pro is like 3 year old intel/amd tech. Still good but, I wouldn't buy it.
Is single core used more often for basic things? I don't really know when single versus multicore is used task to task.

Then buy a air. Don't add confusion to the mbp line-up

See the post ahead of mine. Hes confused. Thats all apple is doing putting a non-pro chip in a device with pro in its name. I get it they are trying to replicate the intel i3, i5, i7, i9 (M3, M3 pro, M3 max, M3 ultra). Get that maximum income.
WRONG. Do you not understand how these chips are made when they make the pro chips not all of them yield pro chips those with defects or some cores not turning out correctly are used for the regular M3 chip. It's the same reason why in the MacBook airline, you have some extra that you have to pay extra money for it's because when they make the chip the high-end one some of them don't yield properly and they are used for the cheaper model. They're not trying to make maximum income in a way of just muddying the water, they are using the chips so they don't throw them away and waste money and they still make money by selling different computers for different peoples needs.

Yes, most programs use single core. Better multi-core performance is for video rendering/content creation sort of things.

More RAM will benefit both scenarios.

So theoretically for someone only doing occasional audio/video editing, this M3 chip will significantly outperform the M1 pro chip. I guess my decision comes down to how important 16", 1 TB hd, older vs newer chip, $100 and added years of software support are (fishing for opinions) 😬

Apple will price match if you call in to configure and purchase.
How does this process work? I call Apple and let them know of this listing on this website and they'll be able to price match?

16" vs 14" is a really personal decision that you have to make for yourself. Try to lay hands on both formats.
1 TB hard drive, for me, is more of a convenience than a necessity. Externals are available with almost no speed penalty for video/audio projects. You gotta know your needs.
The newer chip has documented advantages. I believe it extends the useful life of the product more than any other factor.
The support argument has always seemed like a hand-wavy justification to spend money. I re-sell and upgrade about every two years though. If you buy for life, then this factor should raise in your evaluation.

Nice find. I chatted with MicroCenter and they said they won't be able to price match with this vendor. Maybe a different outcome if we call in? Not sure

I just got the same result. It's too bad. This would be considered a direct competitor, so it would make sense to price match. It's a 30min drive for me, so it would be a waste of gas to try in-store. I wish they let you call the store manager directly.

Exactly. I don't mind driving there (about 45 mins for me) but just for them to decline the price match that would be frustrating. Would be great to get in contact with them prior to confirm a price match but based on the chat conversation, it's looking very unlikely.

There's M3, M3 pro, and M3 max. You should not be getting upset that there's a non-pro chip in a MacBook Pro. There are different types of professionals with different needs.
Well then they should just call it a MacBook with M3 or MacBook with M3 Pro

I fully understand the bin processing of chips. I'm certain they lock cores down to make various versions of their chips for their price scaling product lines

I will just wait for tomorrow and buy some Apple gift cards from Target https://slickdeals.net/f/17148847-target-spend-100-on-apple-gift-cards-get-10-target-gift-card-valid-sun-12-10-sat-12-16-100

Then do the Apple price match

So I tried to do the price match with Apple. They said they'll do up to 10% of the competitor's price. So the max they will take off is $179.99. I agreed to this price and attempted to pay with my Apple Card to get an additional 3% Cash Back (which is essential a 3% discount), however, they didn't allow me to combine both. So I declined the purchase. I called back an hour later to try and do it again to see if they'll combine both, the rep straight up declined the price match from happening from this vendor. Gonna try again in another hour lol

But the option you mentioned is not a bad idea also
