The piano itself is beautiful! We have a lot of white decor and cabinets throughout our house, so it was a good fit. The key action and the keys themselves are very similar to a real piano (my mom is a piano teacher and I grew up surrounded by pianos), and the digital sounds are pretty phenomenal. I also use Logic Pro to create music for films, and I love that I can connect this full 88-key piano to my laptop with a USB cable or wirelessly through Bluetooth and use it with Logic Pro. Beats the heck out of using my 25-key midi keyboard!
I can't say enough great things about this digital piano. No, it's not (quite) the same as an acoustic piano, but considering how much lighter and easier to move it is (no professional movers needed... at 128 lbs. my wife and I can move it ourselves anywhere in the house, and can easily disassemble it), and the fact that I can use it as a MIDI keyboard or practice on it using headphones so I don't bother other people, it's FAR more versatile than an acoustic piano at a fraction of the cost.

I get the sense a lot of these arrived damage as I've corresponded with other SDers who received this piano smashed up. I wonder if it is due to shipping or if Adorama themselves are buying an in-doubt supply that may or may not have been damaged and they are rolling the dice on each sale?

Just like @beanboy I've done plenty of research. The overall satisfaction is great. When people compared specs with Roland/Yamaha, most complained about the lack of Bluetooth Audio and small speakers. However, the ones that had an opportunity to play, they are impressed with the feel, action and ignore the specs.

There's a term called "action" which is the mechanism that determines how the keys feel when you play.
That Roland uses their most basic action which is also found in their entry level units like the fp-10. It's an all plastic action.
This Kawai uses one of their higher end actions. It's an all wood action.
For this price, there's nothing else out there you can buy(brand new, not used) that will feel as close to a real acoustic piano.
I can't really comment on the other bells and whistles features between the 2 units because they aren't really that important to me. Maybe they are to you.
Action is what matters most to piano players, especially intermediate/advanced.
