Not a fan of the roam, the move yes, roam nope!
A sub would be a great starting point! The Era 100s make for capable rear speakers, as well.

Depends on your room size but I have a Sub Mini paired with my Arc SL (live in apartment as well) and I thought it wouldn't be enough but I was dead wrong. My neighbor next to us texted asking if he heard vibrations; it was the bass from watching Godzilla (2014) so I had to turn the bass level down on the Sub Mini back down to 0 (was at +2 lol). That Mini actually makes a huge difference.

If I had the regular sub I would be getting complaints from downstairs neighbors too.
Well, I got a white mini. It arrives Tuesday. Can't wait to have downstairs neighbors pay me a visit. 🥺. I wonder if right now they can hear my arc on its own when I play some deep house. Guess I'll find out. This is the one thing I'm afraid of - always concerned to crank it up and instead of enjoying the music worrying about my neighbors. I guess that's apartment living for you.

I would like to add another warning- The Roam has a history of failing just out of the warranty period. The cause of the failure is bad batteries. If you are handy with repairs- you can buy a replacement battery on Amazon from a third party supplier. The repair is somewhat involved, however it can be done.
The unfortunate thing is Sonos knows that they have a problem with the Roam- however they won't do anything about it unless they are pressed hard.

I understand that newer models of portable Sonos speakers are being designed with easily replaceable batteries.

I picked up a Roam on sale and really wanted to love it, but it kept having an issue on our WiFi where it'd "black out" for a song or two before the sound would kick in again. Called customer support (who were excellent) and they deduced that, for some reason, the 5ghz and 2.4 were "competing" against one another. Disabling our 5ghz helped, but it meant the house could only operate at 2.4. The bluetooth seemed to also have issues with staying connected, so we ultimately returned it since our primary usage was off-WiFi.

Which was a shame because I was sold on it based on a buddy who brought one camping. The sound was fantastic, the size perfect, and the battery life plenty acceptable for it's portability. Maybe I got a lemon, but I was sore disappointed to have to send it back.

TL/DR: great speaker and worth it at this price if it doesn't have the issues we faced.

I have a beam first generation. Would it still pair with the Era 100?

I got two 5s... should I buy the sub mini or sub gen 3? what else should I add to it?
Get the full size. I would consider the mini for only a smaller room. Personally can't get enough, my drywall and wife beg to differ

For anyone that has the Roam, how would it be in a small workout room - approx 10x11 ft. Debating between the roam and Era 100. Thanks.

I have a Roam for 2 years and never had issue with WIFI on 2.4 vs 5. My guess is the situation below.

If you are running your 5 and 2.4 on the same SSID name, that may be the problem and that's not an issue with just Roam. When a wireless device isn't getting good signals on one frequency, it will try to switch to another.

Heads up -- On a separate note, the battery on my roam died "exactly" 2 days its 2 year purchase anniversary. It just refused to hold its charge -- and I am not the only one. If you go on the Sonos support site, it's apparently a common problem

I picked one up. I am running 2.4 and 5 on the same SSID. No issues with connecting or disconnecting. Previously I asked about a 10x11 ft room for the roam. I have the volume at about 55-75% and it sounds pretty good - much better than the original Google home I had in the same area previously at about the same volume level. I prob should have went with a Sonos era 100, but this was really a decent deal - maybe I'll upgrade in the future. Going to make a wall mount so I can easily use it in other areas as needed.

This might not be the right forum for this, but if I want to hook up a turntable to Sonos Ones, would getting the roam be the best approach? So I would send BT to the roam and then share the audio to the Ones. If I go this route, will I be able to get stereo audio out of the Ones?

I don't currently have a record player and I'm not an audiophile, I just don't want clutter, wires or another set of speakers. I have a nice set of towers in my theater room, but have no interest in setting up to listen to music in that room.
