FYI Target is once again offering a free $10 Target gift card when you spend at least $100 on Apple gift cards online or in stores. The deal is valid 12/10 thru 12/16 according to page 10 of the weekly ad preview:
https://weeklyad.target.com/promo...10&page=10 Ad typically indicates limit of 1 per guest, but YMMV in stores.
RedCard holders can save an additional $4.50. The discount is not equal to 5% ($5) because Target assigns a $10 charge to the "free" gift card and $90 for the remaining balance owed. Therefore RedCard 5% is based on $90 so the discount equals $4.50.

P.S. Apple has a limit of $2000 (*I believe*) to be saved to your Apple Account Balance + an additional 4 gift cards during checkout when using the Apple Store app, but the website checkout still allows 8. An individual gift card can also not exceed $2000.
As of iOS 15, you can add your Apple Account Balance as a card in the Wallet app. This helps to prevent some technical errors when shopping online, and allows for easier shopping when in a store.

I called target, they asked me for a picture of the front and back of the card and before the call was over they indicated they would replace the card. He received it in the mail about a week later.
It's good to know about the scams out there, and I have no idea if this issue was related to the particular scam linked above, but I wanted to let you all know how easily and satisfactorily Target resolved our issue.
I would jump on this deal without hesitation if I hadn't already claimed three previously when the Target gift card was $15. Also, these are electronic gift cards so not likely involved in the scam referenced above...

I just did this in the store at self checkout. Separate transactions.
Bought 16 $50 GC from store.
12 were the "Stop & tear these at checkout" kind
And 4 were the old, scan twice kind.
When I went to Apple Store to redeem, the 4 old ones were used or blocked.
I called Apple, had to provide proof of purchase and photos of GC.
Apple took 2 weeks but eventually gave me 4 replacement GC codes.
I would stick to online GC in future.
Apple made me whole, but I had to call Apple almost every 3rd day and wait for Sr Advisor.
Although it worked out, This was too much of a hassle for me.
Edit: just to add, the issue was that the GC had been tampered with. But these were sealed in a way that it would not be easy to detect.
The code inside did not match with the activation code outside.
Also, if it happens to you, don't waste time chatting (although it sounds easy to message Apple support), call Apple support directly. Way easier to het the case opened.
For me it took long cause the GC dept incorrectly gave a same code twice, so the case had to be escalated. If all goes normally, it should have been resolved in 3 days.
Kept saying "code does not work for this purchase"
