FYI Target is once again offering a free $10 Target gift card when you spend at least $100 on Apple gift cards online or in stores. The deal is valid 12/10 thru 12/16 according to page 10 of the weekly ad preview:
https://weeklyad.target.com/promo...10&page=10 Ad typically indicates limit of 1 per guest, but YMMV in stores.
RedCard holders can save an additional $4.50. The discount is not equal to 5% ($5) because Target assigns a $10 charge to the "free" gift card and $90 for the remaining balance owed. Therefore RedCard 5% is based on $90 so the discount equals $4.50.

P.S. Apple has a limit of $2000 (*I believe*) to be saved to your Apple Account Balance + an additional 4 gift cards during checkout when using the Apple Store app, but the website checkout still allows 8. An individual gift card can also not exceed $2000.
As of iOS 15, you can add your Apple Account Balance as a card in the Wallet app. This helps to prevent some technical errors when shopping online, and allows for easier shopping when in a store.

I called target, they asked me for a picture of the front and back of the card and before the call was over they indicated they would replace the card. He received it in the mail about a week later.
It's good to know about the scams out there, and I have no idea if this issue was related to the particular scam linked above, but I wanted to let you all know how easily and satisfactorily Target resolved our issue.
I would jump on this deal without hesitation if I hadn't already claimed three previously when the Target gift card was $15. Also, these are electronic gift cards so not likely involved in the scam referenced above...

Thanks for your post and info. Just to be clear, the deal will be available for online purchase and in-store too.
When did your son have his problem that Target was so quick to fix?

Yea this is definitely a thing to be aware of. Thanks for providing a documented recent example. Repped.

I misread your previous post. I was thinking you had said Target replaced a $50 Apple gift card you had purchased from them, not a Target $50. Those are definitely different situations.
I was just relaying my favorable experience with Target relevant to gift card issues.

Understood. Obviously it's much easier for them to help with their own gift cards vs. a third party. Glad your situation worked out.

I don't shop in stores so not only do I not need a physical gc to buy, i don't need one to spend. it's all egc.
I've seen some people just say put it on monthly payments so it'll automatically take it out of your balance, but that ruins the savings you get for paying for the full 2 years upfront. I'm just trying to get this right so I can repeat the process smoothly for my family too. <3
