For those who are looking for a deal on the Sennheiser HD600, it looks like they are back on sale again! I got mine just a week ago from World Wide Stereo for a similar price but after using a coupon. They area also selling the HD600 for the same price as a 3rd party seller.
I own several Sennheiser headphones including the OG HD580 Precision, HD6XX, HD598 SE and the HD 599 and these are the most neutral sounding of them all. I truly enjoy them and those who love the company's great sounding and full midrange sound signature will love them.

It all depends on how you enjoy your music. The HD6XX is warm sounding and I can listen on it for hours on end. The bass is deeper as well which is a plus. It's has less treble than the HD600 so it's much less "fatiguing". So at $179, I do think it is an excellent buy. I bought mine for the same price from Drop and love it when I listen to jazz and male vocals where it really shines.
The HD600 is crisp sounding in comparison and it will sound bright and even harsh if you just finished listening on the 6XX. So it's not as smooth and is more for when you want to hear every note of the recording and analyze it. And it has less bass also. So it depends on what genre is music you are listening to.
In an ideal world, you own both as they are both highly praised and each has its own merit. That's part of this "hobby". But if I were to own one, I'd own the HD6XX as it just allows you to "enjoy" your music after a long day of work when you just want to relax and not pick out every single nuance of the song. Hope this is helpful!
