Open Box. I've been watching these x3800h's come and go in the sub-$900 range and pulled the trigger on this one. Moving from a 4300h to this. I don't need the amp as I have a couple VTR D-class amps.

Of course I bought this, posted on SD and a couple hours later Adorama is selling it new for only $17 more at $889. Grrr.

I bought Pioneer 505 just a week ago. But these X3800H deals are really tempting me. This looks like a great deal for extra $120, $150 (compared to Pioneer 505) but returning Pioneer and ordering Denon seems too much of a hassle for me.

I bought an open box Thanksgiving weekend for this price. Item came brand new still wrapped, box was resealed and it let me register on Denon.com for the warranty.

fwiw I have the X3600H (I'm assuming largely the same) and it has been spectacular. Probably the cheapest receiver that has pre-outs if you need them. I use pre-outs to a more powerful amp for the main channels and use the Denon to power the Atmos channels.
