I received an email earlier today from T-Mobile saying that one of my lines (which currently has an iPhone XR) was eligible to upgrade to a new 5G phone for free to better take advantage of the network. I am on the Simple Choice North America Promo plan with several free lines so this seems like it must apply to a lot of plans.
The fine print in the email (see images in link) made it seem like it was limited to just the Moto G 5G (meh), so I reached out to T-Force via Twitter to ask if any other phones qualified. They confirmed that the iPhone SE 3rd Gen, Nokia G310, Nord 300, and REVVL 6/6X also qualified, but that you had to complete the transaction in store.
I had to go to the mall tonight so stopped by the T-Mobile store after confirming that my account was annotated and the SE was in stock and was able to upgrade to the 128GB black model for the $35 support fee and tax. Bill credits seem to be in process.
You may want to reach out to T-Force to confirm and have them annotate your account as that definitely helped at the store.
I was able to take advantage of the
June 2022 deal for another line that had an old iPhone on it so it's been nice to get a couple upgrades for the kiddos.
Hope this helps a few people.

I've done two of these before, got an SE both times with nothing paid; not even tax.

I remember seeing the June 2022 deal here and popping a SIM card for a free line into an old iPhone 5s we had laying around (our youngest was using it in an old Galaxy) and it took a few weeks to get the notification, after they extended the offer.
That's a bummer; sounds like it's fairly targeted even for similar accounts (this was my only non-5G phone on a 12-line Simple Choice Plan).
Sorry that this seems to be proving to be as widely available as an old Walmart or Target Brickseek search.
