This is not the model listed in the lawsuits. The ones listed in the lawsuits are various Extreme and Extreme Pro models as well as the Pro-G40 and Western Digital My Passport. I don't know if this model also suffers from the same issue(s) and I am trying to figure out when it was introduced. I've gone ahead and ordered one given the extended holiday return period. I'll leave it unopened until I decide to keep it or there's a deal on a Samsung T7.

Fire sale on these since they have fatal flaws and drives fail right and left. Don't do it.

Sandisk had data loss issues with several external ssd options they sold. Supposedly an update fixed it but there seem to be mixed feelings on if it really did fix it.

Yea I need one bad but if I can't trust them they are worthless. Looking for a nice deal on t7
Personally I think a reputable 2.5 ssd in a standard usb enclosure without hardware encryption is the best way

You could be right. Like I said I have over a month to decide whether to keep this. I'm waiting to see if somebody does a teardown of this model.
I like your thinking...Please post if you find additional info - as will I

The 2 tb version had lots of problems for losing data per report. YMMV Good luck.

Good to know. I've had this one for a few years, so far I've stored almost 1tb of photos, I don't think I've lost any data that I know of. I upload batches of photos every month or two without any issues. However, I do keep a second back up on another drive, I learned the hard way in the past of not having a 2nd back up.

edit:
nvm. I just noticed I have the extreme portable version, I'm not sure if this is the same thing. It looks the same except mine has an opening on the corner where
you can attach a hook/ring to carry around.

Was going to pull the trigger unilt I saw the comments all over the web. The $40-$50 savings over the 2TB T-7 pricing is not worth the risk of losing data.

Isn't it the extreme pros with the opening that had the issues?

From what I can tell, according to WD the impacted models are the Extreme and Extreme Pro. No mention of this one.

There is an updated firmware version on WD site https://www.westerndigital.com/pr...0-2T00-G26, not sure if both are same
