I also own two lodge Dutch ovens. 5 and 7 quart. Had the 5 qt for over a decade. It works great and no chips.

I'll never understand the dumbasses that thumbs down legitimate questions.

Anyways, I've this and Le Creuset of similar volume (but wider and lower). The Le Creuset is much lighter and the ceramic is slightly easier to clean. Now is it worth the extra $200? That's up to you. They come in very nice colors but we use both our dutch ovens equally and neither does a better job doing the actual purpose of the cookware which is cooking.

I have the 4qt, its been great. Made chili a couple nights ago.Baked bread in it last week. I also have Staub and Le Creuset. Lodge rates up there. imo.

I have had this for 4 years. I use it for one purpose about 8 times a year. Smoked queso on my Traeger.

Still looks like new.

Generally I find lodge pretty overrated, but their enameled cast iron is good.


Regular cast iron the greater goods smooth milled is better than lodge cast iron

But the enameled cast iron from lodge is perfect, no need to buy the fancy french brand

I have this exact size. Bought for this price 10 years ago and I still use it probably weekly. It's awesome for basically anything, baking bread, making soups, chili or stews. I have a Le Cruset that I don't use cause I'm afraid to mess it up.

These were made in their China factory. Lodge moved their enameled cast iron production back to the US recently. The new ones are a lot more expensive. Looking on their site they don't make a 5.5 qt anymore. The 6 qt is $300. 4 qt $260.

You're saying these are the ones that are still made in China? I bought one a couple years ago. My wife was recently cleaning with steel wool and scraped off the enamel some. Now she doesn't feel comfortable using it

I can't argue with the logic, and I'm a fan of Lodge. I don't know why Lodge hasn't created a sanded or milled line for a smooth interior. I sanded my 12" Lodge smooth and I like the results. All you need is an orbital sander with some coarse grit. It does take a while though, that cast iron is tough.

Yes, the inexpensive ceramic lined are made in China. Their new enamel/ceramic stuff is made in the USA, almost..."Proudly made in the USA with imported hardware"

I went through at least a half dozen standard coarse 40 grit sandpaper and it took probably 20 minutes of sanding. I can't remember for sure. Time to dig out an N95 mask too, you don't want to breathe the dust.
