1) Use non-ethanol gas, which you have to pump with care: Put the first half gallon from the pump in your vehicle, so you don't get the previous customer's ethanol gas. Then fill your fuel jug.
2) When stopping the generator after you are finished using it, don't use the engine shut off button, if the generator is equipped with one. Use the fuel valve to cut off the gasoline. The generator will run for another 3 to 30 seconds, depending on the way it's set up, and then run out of gas. That keeps the carb free of gasoline during storage.
3) Change the oil at the intervals indicated in the manual. I prefer synthetic oil.
Follow the above three guidelines, and MOST generators will start easily and run well over any type of reasonable lifetime.

That is assuming you received a running one. I got a dud, which eBay told me to keep, which is still sitting in my garage.
Which makes me think......
I should buy the costco one....
Swap all the guts with my non-running one......
And return to Costco........
All Costco is going to do is send it back to Firman anyways, who screwed me on the last one.

If you do get it, read up on the issues with the intake being on the bottom and sucking sand.
