LOL. I had actually come here early but then went down a rabbit hole of cascading side tracks.

TBH, I am not crazy about this deal. I liked some of your other deals more (even if they were refurbished). This is not really for gaming: the RX 6400 isn't doing anything here which the iGPU in the CPU couldn't do (except not take away from the system RAM). For productivity use, it's fine, but I would prefer an i5 CPU for that.

Ultimately, it doesn't compare to your recent HP with Ryzen 7 5700G / 32GB DDR4 / Radeon RX 6600XT for $510, Acer with Intel Core i5-12400 for $288 and maybe even the HP with Ryzen 5 5600G / 12GB DDR4 for $319 deals.

I am hoping I am not sounding too negative here. My point is: We've seen better values, from your own deals including.
A few things to know for people want to buy this,

(If I am not mistaken and correct me if I am wrong)

The AM4 motherboard only supports 65W CPUs. This means CPU like 5950x, 5900x, 5800x etc will not be supported.

The CPU 5300G, 5600G and 5700G only support PCIe 3.0, not the faster PCIe 4.0, not the fastest PCIe 5.0. This means your GPU or M.2 SSD will be limited to PCIe 3.0 speed, even if they can do the 4.0 or 5.0 speed.

The case, power supply and motherboard are in a HP special form factor. Not ATX, mATX, ITX etc. So, if you want to upgrade one of the three items, you have to upgrade all three at once.

There are only two RAM slots, there is no way to put 4 sticks of DDR4 RAM into this PC. Just two sticks allowed.

The BIOS/UEFI of the motherboard offers very limited features. No typical ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte overclocking features supported.

The case is very small. It's good if you dont have much room but there is no way to fit a 3 fans GPU into this case. You should be able to fit a 2 fans GPU into the case if you remove the metal mash net thing. The default GPU is a one fan only GPU.

I personally think in 2023 December, you should not buy this PC. DIY build one should be a better idea.
But if you dont have time, need one right now and ship fast to your home for whatever reason, then go for it.
I appreciate you sharing your knowledge, and I agree that this isn't in super duper hot deal territory. However, when someone needs to buy the market may not present anything better at the time in their price range, so sometimes it's nice to know about some of the better prices available.

I'm even flattered that you can rattle off most of the computer deals I've posted in recent months haha

I also agree about the RX 6400; That's why I nudged buyers towards the attractively priced GPU upgrade options in the description.

Anyways, nice to see ya and have a good day.

Oh and let me add this...it's not negativity to give your honest informed opinion. We need more of that in the comments.

These are all over eBay for cheap. Although shipping costs vary but you can get this amd or intel version for less than this deal.

Slightly relevant, My HP Pavilion from just a few years ago had the PSU shit the bed. Proprietary design so no cheap r&r. I ended up getting a new machine and sold off the components. RTX 2060 & Ryzen 5 I think it was 2600.

Where you at, DeelSeaker? Everyone's waiting for your opinion on this one.
I mean by the time you upgrade to 4060 video card and 16gm ram you are close on price to the nice $699 MSI system that Walmart had for cyber monday week

Totally relevant. The PC market has come to a place where you have to sacrifice upgradeability and cheap repairs for the lower cost of a proprietary pre-built, or bite the bullet and pay more to regain those flexibilities with a standard build. It wouldn't cost the Dells, Acers, and HPs of the world much of anything to at least make their towers with standard PSUs and motherboard mounting/wiring. If any one of them went back to that today they'd earn a bunch of loyal customers.

Plus it had a 1TB SSD. That was a solid deal. I agree that upgrading this one to similar specs would cost very close to the same. But the i5-13400F has substantially better performance benchmarks, so this one isn't really on par with that MSI.

No one in their right mind would be buying this to upgrade graphics here to a 4060. This is for someone who wants a productivity PC and doesn't want to pay an extra $300 for the MSI system which comes with the graphics they don't need.

The predecessor to this was an HP Pavilion gaming PC with the exact same CPU and a better GPU.

I think it got close to $300 before they switched to this model. (I got it for $200 at a local Walmart.) I suspect if you wait this will get cheaper. The most recent news points to a new series of APUs from AMD coming out in the spring. This will most likely be replaced in the first quarter or at least the first half of 2024. And when it is it will be clearances at Big box stores.

When you get to the Spring this will be a 3 year old CPU with a 2 year old bottom tier GPU. The new APUs integrated graphics will come close to beating this GPU. It really should be cheaper.

They're stretching out the life cycle of older designs to effectively compete in the lower priced market. Substantially quantified by mystwu2 in an earlier comment.

It's weird that this has a CPU with a strong igpu when it comes with a discrete GPU. I've even seen on some hp motherboards there is no video output connector. So you can't use the igpu even if you remove the discrete GPU.

Lots of good points here.
I bought one of these bargain "gaming computers" from HP last year and immediately bought some additional RAM. At that point I realized there is zero configuration available in BIOS (XMP for example) and the RAM I just bought was running at default JEDEC spec. Then the video card died. So disappointed.

Did you notice that I wrote "entry level" in the description? I don't want to steer anybody wrong. Sorry for your bad luck on your HP, and thanks for sharing.

what the energy usage on a machine like this?

looking to just host a plex server on it, but it needs to be able to handle high bitrate 4k HDR files locally and off-network

The CPU is 65W max, so between power supply losses and motherboard/memory/fan power you should be under 100W average. That's 876 KWH per year. At 15 cents a KWH, that's $131.40 per year, roughly $11 a montth in 24/7 duty. If it's idling a lot I'd expect that number to be substantially lower.

That's a deal that should be posted. People might never see it and miss out if it stays buried in these comments. Likely will go front page at that price. Nice find.
