Is there any other difference between these and the lightening version besides port?
Technically, yes (but minimal). So far, the only difference that has been confirmed is that the USB-C version will support lossless audio (20 bit/48 khz) with the upcoming Apple Vision Pro (while the lightning version will not support lossless). Here's a link for source [theverge.com] info.

It's unclear whether there's any physical difference in components, or if it's simply a software lockdown by Apple. Aside from the lossless issue, the USB-C versions also have dust proofing that the lightning version doesn't offer (IP54 rating instead of IPX4) & are capable of reverse charging USB-C devices (like the iPhone 15) though the batteries are so small I think that's pretty limited in value.

USB-C is of course more universally supported and future proof as well now that lightning is essentially going extinct, but the average lifespan for most AirPods is probably in the 2-3 years so also probably not a huge issue for the current generation of devices. To be clear, not saying they can't or won't last longer (I have a pair of AirPods from 2020 that are still working perfectly fine, aside from reduced battery life), but the batteries are so tiny on these that I think most people likely end up replacing them for something newer / better within that window.

Can't believe people are paying $200 for $50 buds. That apple tax.
Why don't you try it and see if it's worth $200? You can go to Soundguys.com and see best ones are all $200 and over: https://www.soundguys.com/best-wi...s-2-14313/

I would also like to know the answer to this question. I expect the answer is no, but I'll be hopeful.
Actually in store price was retail price.

In order for me to return my Amazon purchased ones I had to go through chat. Just a heads up
It also takes much longer to get a refund for Apple products. They can take around a month to refund after you drop off at UPS.

Omg for the price. Good thing my ears are ok with $35 Amazon echo buds. Good for calls and audio music too. Multipoint is a plus

Not sure which store you went to, I went to Los Feliz, CA and it was matching the Online price.

I actually bought these yesterday at retail, and went back to get a price adjustment today.

It was the same price at my store. Also, AppleCare shows expiration in Feb 2026, so a couple extra months were probably added so they don't have to activate each set individually.

I hope not. Abusers of Costco's generous returns be ruining it for the rest of us.
Is the return period not for 30 days? What is the return period of Costco?

The lower prices did not include AppleCare+, if you value that sort of thing.

Also the deepest discounts were on the Lightning version, which is not the same.
I got the USB-C from Best Buy for $189, and because I'm Total Tech get the AppleCare+ for free. That last part isn't universal, I suppose.

Recently? Because I just got these for $199 with the total tech applecare coverage, and didn't see any $10 "extra" discount.

The week before Black Friday through after Cyber Monday. I assume they'll drop back down again.

Went to La Habra, CA location, and it was at retail price. Since I will be in Glendale today, I will drop by Los Feliz location. Thanks

It is a satisfaction guarantee so no return period except for select items such as some electronics, TV's, appliances, etc. that are limited to 90 days. You can find the 90 day items on the website under returns.
