For those wondering, $3/booster pack for any SV set is about as low as it gets.

Unless you get a Booster Box (36 packs), but those cost ~$100 at the lowest.

Even an ETB which comes w/ 9 boosters don't go lower than $35, so ~$3.88/booster.
Get yourself some nice protection, vault x makes very nice leather bound binders with side loading pages. Less than 30 bucks to store 480 cards.

Also, I use a cataloging app called Ditto Dex. it pulls data from TCG player so you always see market prices on cards in a nice way to display your collecting on the go.

Just curious for those that are buying...do you play, collect, or both? I did both starting about 25 years ago starting with the base and jungle sets but quit after either the Gym Leader set or Team Rocket set (whichever was later). Won a few local tourneys , collected a bunch of early 1st Editions, and really enjoyed my time in the scene. I'm totally out of the loop now though. I know that folks get cards graded and that's probably the direction that I need to go. That leads me to another question...what do you see for the future in terms of the TCG? Do you expect the newer releases of the past couple years to gather value? Curious to see where people are at, what they anticipate/expect down the line, and/or whatever thoughts people have to share.

I started picking these up bc of my brother. He showed me the chase for Charizard and some other artwork that are pretty cool. Mind you, I only kinda remember the 151 so a lot of the ones I got was over my head. A lot for it was nostalgia on opening packs. If you're a serious then getting the full arts and grading them might be a good to add to a collection.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the difference between Pokémon Go booster packs and the Scarlett & Violet booster packs? Are there any "better" cards in one versus the other? Same question about Scarlett & Violet vs Paldea Evolved and Obsidian Flames.

While we're at, do these come with V or V Max cards? My son is always looking for those (and are they more valuable than other cards?). TIA!

Pokemon Go and Scarlet & violet are just different generations & sets, pokemon is currently releasing a new set every 3/4 months. Whether either set has"Better" cards would be subjective, but Pokemon go contains more of the original pokemon, and scarlet & violet contains someone the newest pokemon. Paldea and obsidian are subsets in the scarlet & violet generation and some of the most recent sets. V and v max cards came in the sword and shield generation, these cards can still be found on store shelves, it is the generation right before scarlet and violet. It is almost too much to keep track of!

Thanks a ton, I appreciate it! Are the good ol' Pokémon cards still worth anything for someone collecting cards (not to play), or is it all about the v, vmax, ex, EX, and GX now? A lot has changed since I started collecting Pokémon when I was a kid. Pokémon cards had just come out, friends were into Magic the Gathering, but I didn't want to start off behind everyone, so I went with Pokémon, around 98-99 or so. Seems a lot more complicated now. Oh and pogs were somewhere in there.

I would buy those $28-29 booster bundles that pop up on Walmart or Target. I got 45 packs because I'm COMPLETELY new to Pokémon cards and wanted to try it out, absolute duds every single one of them. Some decent cards but they're all junk for the most part. I opened up 24 packs from the six booster bundles and got much, much better pulls. Some ungraded cards worth $30-50 while the 45 packs got me virtually nothing. There were some "okay" pulls in the 45 packs (which were 15 of each) but extremely disappointing but maybe I just had horrible luck.
