They are sensitive and like any computer, often freeze and have to be manually reset.
If you're going to spend the whole shebang, the company branded bags fit better than any trash bag ever will.
They're not quiet!
They're huge.
Elimination is a big indicator of health conditions, regularity and appearance, and if you aren't scooping it yourself, you're more likely to miss early or even timely signs of a problem.
My two cents. 🐾🐾

Litter robot 4 is pretty quiet.
These are game changers, I love my LR3.

Just an FYI. When you do inevitably have to clean it, it's super awkward to take it apart and clean each component.
ETA: Just placed my order. Thanks again OP for the great deal. The GCs cost me $684, less the $112 in treats money I'll receive and the 20%cb, the LR4 cost me approx $418. While still not cheap, this is a great price for something that rarely goes on sale and has made my life a whole lot easier.

The fine print for the 20% offer says the maximum cashback is $50, which is less than you would receive with the unlimited 10%cb offer. Not a huge difference though.
I don't think it's worth the price with its current issues. Maybe the next model.
When the sensors don't work, the machine becomes a real PITA to deal with. It'll falsely report a full bin all the time, which makes the machine stop working after three cleaning cycles. I could put a brand new bag (LR4 branded bags, kitchen bags, you name it) into the bin, and after a single cycle it'd say it was full. Other times, it would NEVER say it was full and would allow the bin to get so full you couldn't pull it out without making a horrendous mess. Eventually, it started to report "laser sensor" errors, and that's when I pushed for Whisker to do something about it.
I remember specifically that a firmware update came out about a week before all of the sensor issues. I've seen unconfirmed rumors that Whisker changed the design of their sensors due to issues, so maybe the newer machines will work better than my original one did. I hate that there's firmware needed for a litter box, but that's the world we're living in now.
The LR4 is an absolute game changer, and with three cats, I don't know how I'd ever go back to scooping again. But for such an expensive piece of hardware, I'm a bit concerned that it's already needed parts replaced within the first year. We didn't opt for the replacement plan/extended warranty, so I'm not exactly filled with confidence that this thing will make it another year without a costly repair.
