For gas stations that charge cash and credit prices, using a gift card gets you the "cash" price. Pretty nifty.
Walmart has never been included.
You'd be doing all that loading up on Amazon Gift Cards for just 5%? If that's your approach for Amazon, and you have Prime, I'd recommend just applying for the Amazon Prime credit card (a Visa card from Chase) which gives 5% back on every Amazon purchase anyway, with no dollar limit. (Whereas, Chase Freedom and Discover both limit to $1,500 worth of purchases per quarter for their 5% calendars; anything after $1,500 spent in the quarter only gets you a measly 1% back).
The Prime credit card also occasionally offers sign-up bonuses, such as a $100 Amazon gift card loaded to your account immediately upon approval. You can read up more about it here [amazon.com].

Honestly, for a frequent Amazon shopper who already has Prime, getting that card is a no-brainer. And perhaps more importantly than 5% back, is that since you'd be making your purchases with a Credit card rather than Gift cards, you'd add all the benefits that a Credit card provides which using a Gift card would forfeit (Extended Warranty, purchase protection, etc.)

It's an excellent cb rate, IF you can stand having over 100k with Merrill. With the sheer amount of fees they'd charge you just to invest with them, I'm not sure it's worth it in the long run just to make something in the short term.

Back on topic, don't forget if you got the 5% grocery/gas SUB, this next quarter will make grocery 9% cb (1% + 4% sub + 4% quarterly).

I swore Chase used to publish a list of merchants for various categories. Maintaining that list on a static webpage must have been too much upkeep.

Visa also used to have a tool that did that: https://www.visa.com/supplierlocator-app/app/

Amex has a tool, but it's wonky sometimes: https://www.americanexpress.com/en-us/maps

https://awardwallet.com/merchants
That's tool I use. Especially when I travel and am unfamiliar with the merchants in that area.
Thx for the Award Wallet link, wasn't sure if Gopuff was grocery or delivery and AW says grocery so it'll stack nicely with the $10 Chase monthly Gopuff credit

Psa: Gopuff reward pts exp end of Jan 2024

.

What fees? I've used em for years without seeing any at all (other than the stuff everyone charges like tiny fees for options contracts and the like)

This is for the freedom/freedom flex. The other chase cards don't have rotating 5% categories.

anyone know if chase 5% categories are different from discover? discover offering 5% at restaurants from jan to Mar so i could use discover for food and chase for gas during those months. gonna suck if both offers 5% for same categories during same months though

They're operated by completely different banks. Sometimes the categories overlap, sometimes they don't.

Flex is great for year one. Because the 5% on gas/groceries up to 12k spend stacks with the quarterly 5% groceries and gas bonuses. They cap at 9% so you won't get the full 10%. But still pretty good. In combo with reserve, that's up to 13.5% redemption value

How long have we been complaining that this is not for select card holders but for all holders of the specified cards? Can devs or mods do something?

But dealing with a remaining balance can be a hassle, as the gift card balance cannot be stacked up. For example, if you buy a $30 gift card and fill up the tank with $28, you will have $2 remaining on the gift card. The next time you want to use it, you have to fill up with that $2 and then make another transaction for a regular full tank fill up. If there is a long queue waiting behind you, I don't want to be a asshole holding up the pump for an extended period. I hope you don't want to be that asshole either.

This isn't a problem, because I make sure to let my tank go low enough that $25 is not enough to fill up.

Most gas station gift cards are $25, $50, $100. So I set the limit to $25 just as if I only had $25 cash.

You can buy gift cards from grocery chains and use them at fuel station, not best option bit still feasible to save that way. I have been doing it at Kroger for such deals.

You're missing the real Kroger gas deal then...
