Weird - I just bought this off of Amazon a couple of weeks ago. I'd call these drives "extreme" in that they are very fast when reading (~125 MB/s) and VERY slow when writing (~12 MB/s). Probably not the best choice for a transport drive (lots of file copying while you wait), but good for ISO images and installation drives.

Another option to consider for roughly the same price, I've had good luck with these. They write a little faster but read a little slower. Microcenter branded. https://a.co/d/eMjXiFm

Not slick. It has been roughly this price since Feb '23. Check keepa dot com.

These are very bulky - and erratic performance depending on the batch.

Internal components change all the time!

I don't know what it is but I have tons of these and they all write slow. I tried every USB port on my motherboard, all USB 3.0 and up. I still use them, but always fall back to my SanDisk afterwards.

I bought the 64gb version as a boot drive for a server. It took 10-15x long to install Ubuntu as it does on 10k rpm. It is very stop and go where things freeze. I don't think it is meant for large continuous writes and reads.

So what you're saying is that they'd be great for spies that need to copy data but also like to be dramatic about it so they can watch the progress bar slowly moving when they need to get out before getting caught?

Perhaps - or better still, find a drive that gets to 99% quickly and then hangs. (Or if you are on Windows, gets to 100% and then hangs) Smilie

I have a few of these drives and I've never seen that slow of writing, I would agree that they are not as fast, but I typically get between 30 and 60mbps.

But keep in mind it really depends on what kind of data you're writing, small files compared to large video files do completely different things on write speeds

Sir I think you have a bad one, because I have a Ubuntu one of these and it's pretty quick

I also bought mine 2 to 3 years ago, it's possible the ones from recently are different, maybe I just got some good ones and everybody else got bad ones for some reason

Don't want to spread misinformation Smilie So I popped a fresh drive out of the box as well as two of the drives I previously used. Not as slow as I clocked before, but not fast and not really consistent. They were all noticeably slower when performing real world activities (sometimes to the point that I started to question whether something really had hung up).

(Left to right order Fresh, Previously Used 1, Previously Used 2)
