For those of you that subscribed to Netflix through Verizon last year on that cheap one year deal, and cancelled through Verizon, check your credit card bill.
I found out today that I was charged for their Ultra $22.99 plan starting today for this month, even though I cancelled about 10 days prior to my one year expiration through Verizon. And it showed cancelled and not subscribed to Netflix even today on Verizon, it only showed currently subscribed to Netflix on my Netflix account details; this what it showed.
Your membership was included with Verizon between 12/15/22 and 12/15/23. Contact Verizon for billing details.
So, yes, that is what I did. And Verizon did indeed show I cancelled my Netflix subscription through them and did not resub scribe or show a current subscription.
This is the charge that appeared today on my Netflix account, now supposedly managed through Netflix.

See? This is the gotcha. They tell me prior to today that I am subscribed through Verizon and have to manage my account through Verizon. I did, and through Verizon my Netflix is cancelled.
Starting today though, they say since I used my normal Netflix account and didn't start a new account through Verizon they charged me on "auto backup pay". I asked how they could do that when my Netflix account was inactive prior to my Verizon signup, I had cancelled prior to my term expiration on my Verizon sign up, and I did not subscribe or authorize to subscribe to Netflix through Netflix. They said to keep my service uninterrupted. A service both Verizon AND Netflix can see I cancelled.
Yep. You had to manage your Netflix account through Verizon, not possible through Netflix, you do, then Netflix charges you after your cancellation through Verizon, and you can only see that and manage that after the fact, not prior. So they get you for a month, you did not authorize, and how many people catch it even then?
Check your credit cards.
"Okay. I see that you've started this account with a different payment method and changed to Verizon, the old payment method was set as a backup and once you've cancelled your subscription with them, the back one is charged to uninterrupt the streaming."

"But why is that? When I would access my account, they said that I would have to manage my account through Verizon; which is what I did. So why does it re sign me up through Netflix, when it is obvious I cancelled the service and did not re up? My service through Netflix was inactive, prior to signing up through Verizon, and cancelled through Verizon prior to the one year expiration date. Who authorized a subscription to Netflix through Netflix after my cancellation?"
I did eventually get a refund, but I never should have been charged in the first place. Deceptive business practice.

Yep I'm getting refunded and cancellation effective now, after 5 mins of chatting. No fuss with Netflix
Same here. I cancelled 2 days before the end date…
Chatting as in talking or using chat messages. I can't get past the robot in chat.
Yes chatting online via browser. It was a 3/4 min wait for me. I said unauthorized charge and they said if you want an agent
Got an email an hour ago from Netflix saying…
"We've updated your account with new billing info. Your membership will automatically continue as long as you choose to remain a member."
Clicked on a link in the email and immediately changed my plan and got this email…
"You recently updated your plan. Here are the details:
Plan
Standard
$15.49/month
Next Billing Date
December 17th, 2023"
So I guess I dodged the automated charge for Premium! 👌🏼

Second, I cancelled Netflix through Verizon immediately after signing up as to not forget to cancel a year later. This still gave me access to the full year. Third, after the year was up Netflix sent me an email that my account was on hold for non payment. I went in my Netflix account and cancelled the subscription. I received an email confirmation of cancellation.
Lastly, I immediately went in and signed up another year with the new Verizon deal and again cancelled immediately so that I don't forget to cancel a year from now.
I would delete all credit card information from your Netflix account to avoid anything like this in the future.
So hopefully all is well, but yes, it's definitely shady business practices. I'm sure a lot of people won't realize what happened.
part of the terms if you sub'd an existing netflix account:
EXCEPT, you could access your Netflix account, only to see that it showed to MANAGE it at Verizon. You could not do anything else. So we all canceled correctly through Verizon, and Verizon did not show us subscribed. Netflix only showed me subscribed on the day they charged me, and that day, and that day only, did I have access to manage my Netflix account through Netflix to do anything. There was no way whatsoever for me to do anything on my end to stop this until they charged me.
You bet. I probably would not have noticed the charge on my account until my statement, because I checked a week ago, and in my mind, and what it showed on Verizon, was this was taken care of. My mom told me she was watching something on Netflix, and that is what made me check, because I knew my subscription ended the day before. They definitely would have nailed me for one month of their highest priced plan. I will use a virtual card from now on when signing up for these things...if I do.
