Currently have a '19 CX-5 with 20k mi. It's been at the dealership for the last 3 weeks because the tranny died. At least it's under warranty and they give me a rental Mazda.

It's nice to see a decent vehicle retailing for under $30K plus cash incentives. The market has finally gotten to a point where it's completely walking away from $80,000 F150s, and Big 3 dealers are in a serious panic because they have way more money tied up in vehicles than what the market will pay for them. Every bubble eventually bursts, and I see a wave of dealership bankruptcies coming. Hard to pity them after their $10,000 "market adjustments".

I'll get downvoted for this, but check insurance rates before you pull the trigger on this - they may have immobilizers now, but Kia Boyz don't know the difference. Also, you'll want to check your oil every time you stop for gas, and keep the receipts for every single oil change if you want that 10 year warranty to cover the eventual engine replacement.

Oh so now $150/mo saving in gas, not the $200 you falsely claimed before. And 7X the depreciation on your EV will wipe away all those savings instantly.

lol I work in automotive PD. I can guarantee to know more than you about both ICE and EV.....
Bought a car for 50k. It cost me $50/month in electricity, and $100 for insurance. I don't care what the depreciation is, I don't plan to sell it for 8 years when the warranty runs out. I'm happy as hell with it.

There is no proof that has happened or is happening. Not sure what you're basing that on other than fear of change.
They wear out after about 8-10 years on average. The car should easily last 15+ years.

HYUNDAI TUCSON gasoline is a little bit under-powered. ppl prefer their Hybrid model, and most buyers paid the MRSP.

No wonder you dont understand why low incomes will not adopt EVs when you don't even understand your own TOC vs ICE TOC.......
Bought a gladiator for 50k cost $250/month in gas and $65 for insurance. What are you not understanding?

I was a dealer for many years, when their inventory dried up during covid and chip shortage their overhead still remained roughly the same except for salespeople commissions. Rent, taxes, heat, AC, community donations, office personnel, all continued unabated, Gross profit had to come from somewhere, I was lucky, didn't need to buy a car until now..
I have nothing against car dealerships in general; it's their behavior that often makes my blood boil. Plenty of opportunists, predators, and scammers amongst them, but that doesn't make them all bad. There are a lot of otherwise good people doing bad things at dealerships because management forces them to.

It's long overdue for the car dealer industry to create an ad-hoc code of ethics organization that all member dealerships must strictly adhere to, or lose their membership status. That would stop most of the shenanigans going on in sales offices. But it will never happen as long as they're making more money being dishonest. The direct-to-consumer model is a direct result of people's horrible experiences at dealerships. The reckoning is taking place as we speak; the proverbial chickens have come home to roost. The ability to buy a car in a new and more transparent way will soon be widespread and available on all brands. The brands that resist will fade into obscurity.

Against the "0%" offer, you should also factor in depreciation cost over 5 years. After 5 years, you'll have ~35% with a Toyota. Hyundai equivalents run around 50%. Many drivers will also get different insurance rates (lower) for Toyota versus Hyundai. Factor those into cost of ownership.

Tesla is changing the game! Direct to consumer model is finally giving a run for all these dealerships. It's still cheaper to buy a model Y AWD long range than a Tucson limited FWD with tax incentives.

It's more about what you don't understand: concept of TOC.

And also the concept that comparing Jeep Gladiator to Model 3 in terms of operating costs is about as logical as comparing your Model 3 to bicycle.

there's no proof that batteries wear out?

Not in any amount of time that matters. Fleet data from 10+ years of Teslas suggests that even the oldest generation mass produced ones (the 1st gen 18650s in the Model S) are still retaining near 90% charge after 10 years/200,000 miles.... meaning except in rare cases the battery will outlast the typical lifetime of a car. And again that's the oldest, least advanced ones.

Data suggests newer ones will last 500,000 miles for non-LFPs, and likely 1,000,000 miles for LFPs. Both FAR above the average # of miles any car sees in its lifetime.

you do realize that leasing is just paying for massive depreciation in monthly installments, right?
I realize that of course. Some don't
