This is a ratchet, it's not designed to break fasteners loose. It's designed to spin them on or off fast, in places that an impact won't reach. That's why it functions manually, so you can break loose or fully tighten a fastener by hand. This also gives you more control over how tight you go.

You are supposed to break the nut loose manually with the ratchet before using it to take the nut off. It's not a torque gun. It does not have the power to break nuts loose. That is not what it is intended for. Just fyi

Not a comment on this Dewalt specifically but I feel like there's confusion about the intended use case of cordless ratchets. They are really built for a specific problem, which is to spin fasteners that are hard to access in the guts of an automotive or occasionally industrial machine. If you have to get a bolt off and there's enough arc swing to get ONE ratchet click, it's going to be very painful to remove. It only gets worse (and potentially injurious) if you have to do this for your job.

I have an M12 ratchet and I use it mainly for hose clamps on cars, which are somehow invariably miserable to reach and need an ungodly number of turns. I think the M12 high speed ratchet is actually more popular these days because these tools simply aren't used for anything requiring torque.

Appreciate this info. For a home DIYer, this is pretty useless then if I have to loosen it with a ratchet first. Will cost me more time than it saves.
This is a ratchet, you don't need another tool to loosen or tighten. Just use it like a normal manual ratchet to loosen or tighten, usually one swing, then push the button. It works great and speeds things up by a lot. Not the kind of tool most people need around the house or for the occasional oil change, but awesome for bigger automotive projects or anywhere you will be installing a lot of fasteners in tight space.

Good price for this. I got the same kit for $200 at acme back in October. If I had to do it again I'd pay $240.

I've been trying to find a solution to using this with 1/4 sockets. Everything I have under 10mm is 1/4". And I don't want to buy more sockets. Right now I am basically daisy changing a couple of adapters to my 1/4" sockets on this but it's getting annoying.

Just going to say I bought this and ended up returning it after installing a garage door. It will say it works well enough, but it is pretty damn large and unwieldy. Only has about 40-50ftlbs of torque and can't break most nuts free itself. It's good for running nuts in and out but final torque and breakaway still has to be done by user. Ended up not really being worth the cost and hassle just to spin nut down a bit faster.
You aren't using it right if you're looking for torque.

I'm not using it at all, I retuned it. Didn't you read the comment before replying?

But if you still have to put all the physical effort in for breaking fasteners loose or tightening... this doesnt really help all that much. Instead of taking 30 seconds with your fingers to spin a nut on, it can do it in 1 second. You still have to do the difficult part of breaking loose or tightening by hand.

I guess if your a mechanic and putting hundreds of nuts on/off everyday, I can see it being a large time saver. For a DIYer doing a small jobs, it is kinda useless.
Not sure why it would be difficult to break a nut or bolt loose manually, that's what, a second or two?

75ft/lbs is pretty good for a ratchet (non impact), probably highest i've seen with most around 40-50ft/lbs. Already have the craftsman v20 so i'll just stick with that.

Picked this up last night. I am pretty bought into the ryobi system but have been looking for a change. Shocked at how small these batteries are compared to ryobi.
Had a little trouble finding one though, only one store nearby showed online that it had it. Online showed 2 on an employees tablet showed a stock of 4 but they could not find them. 2 other nearby stores on the tablet showed 2 in stock. Went to one of the stores and they did have 2 in stock. So I would also check stores online that don't show any stock.

I guess people expect these to be right angle impact wrenches. That's a different tool. This is a power ratchet, it (ideally) has a low-profile head and as such doesn't have an impacting anvil, it delivers sustained torque instead. Yes, they could make them a lot more powerful in terms of torque, and create an unwieldy mess. I assume the manufacturers have some limit on what they consider an average wrist at the end of an 8-12" lever arm can handle without unreasonable risk of injury. Many drills with much shorter lever arms are well capable of hurting people who don't know what they're doing.

As already pointed out, as power tools go, the form of a ratchet is for reaching into areas where pistol grip tools can't. Can a DIY'er justify $200 for a fairly specialized nut runner? Well this is SlickDeals, so for many the answer is buy first and ask questions later. But if it's a no, there are plenty of other options, all the way down to Amazon generic cordless ratchets (or even Hyper Tough now) at sub-$50 with battery that might make sense instead.

Yeah, I was so excited when I saw DeWalt was finally offering a ratchet but when I saw the ft/lbs. I knew it wasn't what I needed. I picked up an off brand one on Amazon for much cheaper that can run bolts in and out but doesn't have enough power to break loose bolts. I'd recommend going that route as well until they up the power.

If you just want something to spin nuts in tight quarters, you can use a right angle adapter with the cheap gyro screwdriver.

Personally Ive always used this for $30 with a dewalt gryo screwdriver to spin nuts/bolts in tight quarters, while still using a regular ratchet for breaking loose or torqueing down. It is 2 tools instead of 1, but more pratical for a DIYer.

Sounds like a huge pain in the ass and not at all practical. The point of this tool is to make those tasks more convenient. There are a million ways that you can accomplish any task, I really don't think breaking bolt loose with a wrench or ratchet and then switching to a whole other tool to run it out is MORE practical than owning one tool that can do both of those things if you can afford it.

It's not really 75ftlbs, all the independent tests are 40-50ftlbs.

Is this variable speed, depending on how far you pull the trigger? The rest of my Dewalt gear is, so I'd assume it is the same here but you never know.
