If you already have a 3D printer and want another option besides downloading STL files from Printables/Thingiverse etc. or designing in CAD programs to get printable files, then a 3D scanner is a useful addition.
The Scan Ferret is suitable for medium to large objects. For example, you can use it to scan the faces of your friends and family. Or use it for practical parts, such as getting a replacement part for a car that would be difficult to model in CAD software. The scans also contain a full color texture, which is more relevant if you want to use them as a 3D artist or as props in video games or something like that.
Compared to earlier scanner models, the Scan Ferret uses an ASIC chip that speeds up processing and helps with proper tracking while scanning and in different lighting conditions. There are also two other versions of the Scan Ferret, the pro version for around $386, which uses a wireless bridge with Wifi6 instead of a cable, and the SE version, which does not support mobile use with Android devices.
Make sure the phone or PC you want to use has at least 8GB of RAM. There's more information about the requirements for devices that can be used with Scan Ferret in the product description.

How much post-processing is required? I tried some photogrammetry apps on my phone, they worked pretty well for the most part, but they didn't separate the model from its surroundings / the turntable I was using.

Yeah those start at $250 as well, I wonder which one of these is the better option.
