If you're a fan of great storytelling, animation, anime, etc; if you haven't seen this series, do yourself a favor and seek it out. It's very very good and not "Anime" in the way the Dragonball Z is (although no shade, the BIG anime isn't for all). Cowboy Bebop is a classic for a reason though. Easily worth checking out at 26 episodes and a movie.

What are you talking about, Willies? This is the original anime, not the live-action reboot.
I think he's trying to say that he usually doesn't like anime but he did like this one. Probably because of the heavy western influence. Less culturally eastern than most anime

Yeah, same here. I was never really a fan of over the top anime (screaming every other scene, blowing up planets, etc), but Cowboy Bebop I absolutely LOVE. Amazing storytelling, soundtrack, characters, 'cinematography', etc etc. It's one of the best shows I've ever seen, and I've grown to like it more and more every time I watch it.
I think we agree that CB is the best. But how is this Blu-ray version? Is this a remaster that is worth getting even if you already have the DVD collection?

Great series based on Anime, but it isn't anime. I don't like anime but I really enjoyed this series. Too bad it didn't last for more seasons.
It's certainly anime. There's a lot of different types out there, much of it may not be to your liking, but there's probably other stuff you would like.
Bebop is great because it's not bloated with filler like other big names (First place for too much filler is likely between One Piece and Dragon Ball Z.. something like Bleach or Narutu aren't quite as bad but still have lots of drawn out arcs to support long television runs).
Champloo is similar to Bebop stylistically, but the story isn't as good. Actually, lack of a cohesive story is what's missing from a lot of anime outside of movies like the Ghibli stuff. Some of the grittier stuff can be fun and possibly to your liking.. the original Berserk, Hellsing, Attack on Titan, maybe Death Note although I personally didn't care for that one, to name a few.
Some things I liked for story.. Summer Time Rendering, The Promised Neverland, Made in Abyss.. and while I'm not sure where the story is going, I really love Spy Family which manages to be silly but still engaging.

There's tons of great anime that don't have the tropes you mentioned.

It's definitely anime though. Not sure why they said it wasn't anime. Lol
