Some moisture got on the light leads while outside. You put it in the box, and it rusted over the course of a year.

They definitely don't last forever. 3 years tops on outdoor LED string lights. Between UV, animals, water, ice, sharp gutter edges the deck is stacked against any outdoor lights.

I bought a few of the led's last year to use inside. Crazy looking at the reviews. Last year reviews were stellar. This year, there are a ton of reviews changed to 1 star as they all failed between now and then. Crazy the tyle of garbage these companies put out.

Also, be aware that these have a bit of flicker. If the led is moving or you turn your head you can see the flicker really badly.

They don't even last two seasons. The GE LED bulbs are awful. I've purchased three dozen of these boxes in years past and at least half the strand is out the following year. Terrible waste of money. I'll stick with incandescent if the LEDs are that unreliable.

It's basically got to do with rectification of AC current to DC that's required to power the LED's

I believe you posted the wrong video... but i understand why led bulbs flicker. and while the flicker is caused by the ac-dc conversion, causing all led's to flicker. cheap ones flicker so much that it can be perceived.
