For the folks concerned about screwing up things, you can add the line, don't use it AT ALL, wait to see if the promotion shows up.

If yes, profit.

If not, do a "NO INSTALL" on the line, it's like going back in time, and you never actually added a line.
Yeah but you'd lose on the $35.

Thank for asking this. Was confused by that as well. Why would someone want to replace a free line with a paid line?
After a year of taking part of this free line offer, you can move a paid line out and then replace the "free line" with the paid one. Depending on which rate plan you got, you can be saving up to $45 a month.

Just a heads up - I used the iMessage T-Force (different from the Twitter/X T-Force; iMessage is now international from what I understand while the Twitter T-Force is still US-based) and was told I was eligible for a line.

I got all the way through the process and paid the activation fee when the agent dropped a "We'll need to update your plan code" on me at the last minute. I pushed back and said that was not going to happen. After that, they changed their tune and said they were incorrect and had to change the limit on my plan line so they could add an additional line.

All seems very suspect, so I'll keep waiting on Twitter T-Force to reply.

Edit: They seem to be insistent that I will stay on my current plan so I'm going through with it. I'll update in a moment how screwed I am.

Tforce reply was much more informative than T-Mobile chat. And I believe them more. Tforce said I don't qualify while 2 T-Mobile chat reps said yes

I was not eligible, but FYI, after some time chatting I was at least offered $25 off for 2 months ($50 total). Not sure why the prompt or why it was offered, but maybe others will benefit. Free is free. 🙂

I'm on a legacy magenta (officially it's Magenta 2.0). However, I'm paying $91 for 10 voice lines and three wearables, so despite their efforts to upgrade me to Go 5G Plus, it's just not worth it.

Are you at the eight line limit right now? I had the same thing happened two years ago when I went from eight to nine lines. I wonder if that's why?

Buyer beware. T-mobile deals aren't slick. I was with them for decades and just dumped them because they raised my rates by 50% with their "autopay" scam.

Damn tmo
I think as long as I'm a prepaid customer I won't ever be eligible for these kinds of deals.
