If you know how these things work, you would know they have a high chance of failure. I'd love to get one but I doubt I'd be one of the luck people that have these last a significant amount of time. Just like those power strips with the rotating head, these use slip ring contact points. It's just a metallic high-conductor ring making contact with another spring loaded contact. This is usually the point of failure since it's not a sealed system and these things are typically used in the worst environment for a non-sealed system. So dust, moisture, metal bits, and anything you work with using one of these can easily get pulled inside when the cord is retracted and end up between that rotating slip ring. Then there's the wear to the slip rings from rotating when pulling/retracting the cord. And, even if the cord is 16ga and rated for a specific amperage, those contact points are not rated the same.
Found them on the normal shelf in electrical/lighting. App said $49 but sticker on shelf was $14.03. App said 3 in stock but they had 5 on the shelf, I bought 4.
He bought 3… that's not abusing it. Abusing it would be if he bought all 13!
Thanks. I just ignored the little juvenile threadcrapper. I know that the three recipients of the gifts will appreciate them. All the best and Merry Christmas.
