These Dayton subs are great value for the price. Yes, I know there are better subs, at 2x, 3x, 10x the price but for under $150 this Dayton 12 is solid.

These Dayton subs are great value for the price. Yes, I know there are better subs, at 2x, 3x, 10x the price but for under $150 this Dayton 12 is solid.

Second this. Have one for HT use and it's a great value for that. Plays low (23 hz measured) enough that the tremendous rolloff after that is inconsequential for a sub this size. Does the job it needs to so with no fuss.

Agreed, I got two of the 12" subs on consecutive years Black Friday for about $109 each IiRC, and have both in a 7.2 setup in my basement/theater area.
Are they the best? Of course not. But I'm no audiophile, and they work well for the money to fill the space.

I got a 15" on clearance a few years ago for like $60 with free shipping. That thing was way too powerful for my needs. I could shake the neighbor's windows with just a basic receiver. It worked flawlessly though, and I ended up selling to a guy for $100 who was ecstatic to get it.

Which is funny because anyone that knows audio knows SVS makes some decent stuff but they are far from the best and are often a bit overpriced. I can't think of a single SVS speaker or sub that isn't best by a different brand with an offering at the same price point. I guess their marketing is good 😀

The ~$100 subwoofer market really fills a niche. Not everyone is trying to piss their neighbors off. But having some bass makes a massive difference for the overall audio quality.

I can't vouch for this specific subwoofer. But I suspect it's better than a similarly priced Jamo. Adorama has open box Klipsch R-100SW for $10 more. I'd probably go that route, but know open box is a gamble. Although, I have had good luck with Adorama in the past.

I don't know much that's significantly better than some of the $400-500ish SVS stuff when it's on outlet/holiday sale-- esp with the support, warranty, and free home trial thrown in too.

At regular price or on the higher end though yeah there's plenty of better stuff.


As to the Dayton subs, inflation kicking in I guess-- My Sub1200 was $99 back when I got it but that was like 5 or 6 years ago (and has since been replaced with much better stuff)... was very nice bang/buck at the time, and probably still not much comparable in the range esp. if you've got a smaller space to fill.... in a large open area you could barely tell the difference between that and an SVS PB2000.... but in a smaller/closed space it was pretty night/day jaw dropping of a difference.

Right, like the RSL Speedwoofer 10s is 450 but the performance is comparable to their $799 PB-1000
