The same as the vast majority of negative changes that have happened in the last couple years that benefit only corporations: the pandemic gave corporations an unprecedented ability to see what the outcome would be if all sorts of changes were made. They saw that consumers would tolerate far higher prices and more inconvenience than was expected.
Someone above commented that a frozen food company CEO said that they were selling frozen meals "too cheap before the pandemic". What that translates to is that they always wanted to charge as much as they possibly could for items, and they had no idea that the limit was much higher than they anticipated.
It's the same across other aspects as well. Stores that were famously open 24 hours a day found that their profits didn't actually drop any appreciable amount if they closed every night instead. Stores used to try hard to make sure things were in stock; the pandemic showed them that shoppers will still spend just as much even if many items are out of stock. Now they purposely under order so they lose less money to things getting too old and having to go on clearance, and as a result now every shopping trip the shopper finds that many things are unavailable.
Soft drink prices seem extreme right now. My price point for 12-packs used to be 5 for $10.
Why are 12packs of soda like 10 bucks these days?

Yikes! Soda has gotten expensive! I stopped drinking it at the beginning of this year, but got some for the holidays two days ago. I got 6 pack bottles for 5 for $10 though.
They had this deal during Thanksgiving week only thing they had left was diet and sugar free and pepsi. All regular coca cola and mountain dew flavors was gone and that was at huge Kroger marketplace store
