On the ceramic one the ceramic lid has a silicon seal, kind of a donut shaped gasket, so the lid rests on the gasket rather than ceramic touching ceramic. But only steam should touch that and it's silicon, not plastic.

On the metal one the sight glass is plastic so yes contact with boing water.

I have a glass kettle. The bottom is steel. The lid is all plastic. The steam touches the lid and drops back into the kettle. It's hard to keep away from plastic parts or products.

Is there some new paper about plastic I'm missing, or are these simply more general "avoid where possible" concerns?

I try to avoid where possible as a rule (Tupperware, water bottles, plateware, etc), but I wouldn't be concerned about it as a lid or some such?

I'm fond of how these look but I have one that lets me set the temperature to whatever I want and I can't go back. Some teas want to be at 170° some teas want to be at 180°. With light coffees you want that water to be pretty much as hot as it can be. With very dark coffees you might want a temperature as low as 180°. 195° - 203° is a good general starting point for coffee, btw.

and if you do pour overs you want a gooseneck.

the ceramic one is very heavy , the lid hard to open and on slower side to boil water but very well build. 5 years working now but low usage.

So i have 2 now one cheap plastic one for daily use (on 3rd plastic one they keep dying) and this one.
This copper one looks good for daily use maybe will get it as backup.
