On the ceramic one the ceramic lid has a silicon seal, kind of a donut shaped gasket, so the lid rests on the gasket rather than ceramic touching ceramic. But only steam should touch that and it's silicon, not plastic.

On the metal one the sight glass is plastic so yes contact with boing water.

It's too late on microplastics. Avoid as much as you can, sure, but microplastics have been found everywhere scientists have looked for them. In the water, ground, air, and human bloodstreams. We don't know what's going to happen, but it's going to happen to virtually everyone.

To those with the ceramic unit, any use with hard water? I've had a plastic kettle die possibly from water and scale working on a seam. I like the idea of no water touching plastic just for this reason.

Just see the link I posted! Its a top kettle. Been using for 6 years and it looks brand new. Occasionally we boil a cup of vinegar and it is good as new. All calcium is off of it in a heartbeat! Rinse and reuse for an awesome cuppa tea! 🙂🙂🙂
