For the price it's a good glass kettle, but the lid is plastic. If you leave the lid closed while it is rapidly boiling there is a bit of plastic taste to the water. If you watch it and open the lid as soon as it starts to boil, it works great, but the auto shutoff is meant to work with the lid closed so you shouldn't leave it alone.

Is this issue specific to this electric kettle? Because for 3 years I've been using an electric kettle from a different brand that has a plastic lid and never had an issue with the water tasting different because of it.

I am in the market for a new ketttle as I am a tea drinker but I would prefer that isn't black, also I want one that is durable. Any recommendations for a reasonably priced durable kettle?

I got a similar one from Walmart but for the life of me I haven't been able to remove the stench of plastic. Tried every method over a span of a week, definitely won't be using it
