I got Pixel6a a year ago in a similar deal from Mint. Even though Mint claimed that phone is locked, I tried inserting a sim from an INTL carrier and it worked. When I called Mint after 12 months then they told me that Google phones are not locked so there is no need to unlock.
I am not sure about 7pro but mine 6a was unlocked from the day I received.

Ported my number to Google Voice many years ago, been using Mint most of those years as a "new customer" by getting a new number each time and setting GV to forward calls to the new number each time (a few quick taps in the GV app does it). This time I'll have to get my own number somewhere else to port in ($3 by setting up a new Google account & porting that out is my most likely path), but everything else is the same.

I look like a new account to Mint each time by using Gmail's "plus sign" feature whereby you insert some random text preceded by a plus sign right before the @ in your email address and that extra stuff looks like a different address to Mint, but Gmail ignores it. For example:

[email protected]

Looks unique to Mint, but still gets processed to the [email protected] address by Google. I often use the company and date for the random text to ensure it's unique, so I'd have:

[email protected]

Last year during the big Mint sale I got this phone and ported our numbers over. I'm a fan of the phone (no fingerprint issues) and Mint's pricing, but beware there are known MMS issues the Pixel 7 Pro on Mint that are not fixed after over a year.

Texting via group texts sometimes doesn't go through (or come through) and sending pictures via text just don't work. After troubleshooting for a year with support and reddit forums, there still isn't a fix. It got better after switching the APN and found one that works OK, but it's never consistent.

Just a warning to anyone considering the switch.

Is the Pixel 7 Pro any better than the S23 FE?
Much better. I can't think of the 23 beating the 7p in any way.

Since I'm currently a Mint customer, could I just put my existing SIM into this new Pixel (and essentially throw away the new SIM/service plan)? If so, $189 for a brand new Pixel 7 Pro is still an outstanding deal.
yah, i purchased the bundle with a physical sim. After I got the package, I powered on the pixel 7 pro, downloaded a new esim on the p7p, and transferred one of my existing mint line onto it. Worked without any issues.

40 days later, I ported my daughter's tracfone number over to the sim/service part of the bundle, bound it to the physical sim, and popped that into an unlocked oneplus 6. Again, 0 isues, everything working.

Still in stock. I just got one with the 15gb plan. For an extra $30 I though that was a nobrainer for 3x the data all year long.

Q: I'm a long time Mint customer. Should I port in my GV number or get another number. Not sure as I use my GV number to ring a couple of different phones/devices including my current Mint number/plan which expires in March.

Also, does the 45 days required activation start from order date or received date? thx

Have anyone used Mint's 5G? What are the speed and coverage like? I'm use Mint 4G in Boston area and its coverage is horrible! There's no LTE signal in half of my commute to downtown. Hope their 5G network is not as bad.

i am an international student and I plan to arrive to us in january. I currently do not have a number to port in to mint mobile.
Can someone please let me know if porting in is a requirement for the additional free 6 months or is it a requirement to buy the phone.

Can i buy the phone now and have it shipped to a friend in the us.

LOL, you neither travel much or don't know how locked phones work.
Wow, your ability to insult and assume is almost as impressive as my passport stamps... Lol I've probably navigated more countries than your phone has seen software updates ...

Thanks for your help ... You're the classic if you have nothing to add just be quiet.
