Please do not buy the switch version. You don't even play it locally and have to stream it on the "cloud". It may work fine if you have a perfect WiFi signal with a fast internet connection, but still. There is no reason why the switch can't run a PS2 game.
Say what you will about these games and deals but OP delivered the goods with this post — Sorted by inline metacritic scores? Chef's kiss! Repped!!
Of course no sale on romancing saga 3 and final fantasy 1-6 pixel remastered collection!

Relatively new to switch and new to square enix. FF, dragon quest, and kingdom hearts seems like a good impulse buy. But…which versions of each?!
The first three dragon quests are remakes of 8 bit Nintendo. They all have their charm. I have beaten the first one a dozen times... Simple but fun... Single character... Two has a party of three. I can't remember a lot about 3.
as for ff.... if you are looking to start cheap and simple, iv is an all-time fav... was released as 2 for Super Nintendo in America. the remake is even better.
FF9 is my favorite and is the most fantastical and colorful. FF7 is pretty much the all time most popular for a reason also. FF7 is more urban fantasy with a bit less magic elements compared to the previous games. Although if you are into modern active combat like Tales then it's not a bad idea to play FF7 Remake first.
8 being my fav it seems more of a love story but eh all 3 7,8,9 are all good

Old reply but.. I don't think 8 is a good rec to beginners to FF and esp. not beginners to JRPGs. Story is confusing and the draw mechanic is really not engaging. I don't think it holds up as well as the others.
