Death's Door is the best game I've ever played.

I had a hard time getting into it. I liked the music and the art style, but I wasn't a fan of the levels being maze-like and no clear indication of where you were supposed to go. Kinda turned me off

If you like Death Door, then check out Tunic. Very similar art style, and is inspired by old zelda game.

Devolver Digital is one of my favorite publishers. I haven't played everything, maybe 10 or so of their games, but I always have a great time, and if I have to pick between a new game or a Devolver game, I go Devolver. On this list I've only played Exit the Gungeon and Inscryption - both are phenomenal (although Enter the Gungeon was much better IMO). Death's Door is actually next on my list too! And I think it's on Game Pass.

It's not super long and probably doesn't have much replayability, but Carrion for $6 is a great deal.

Same experience. I wanted to love it but couldn't get into it.

Wouldn't mind checking out Katana Zero. Doesn't show up as on sale, though.

Gato Roboto was fantastic. Having played it, I would have felt like I got my money's worth if I had paid $20 for it.

I saw a bunch of streamers play cult of the lamb a little bit ago. Is that good?

+1 to this - Cool game, really dug the style and vibe, but sort of felt like I had to compel myself to enjoy it and keep going because of the things you mentioned. The aesthetic was lovely but the lack of navigational cues often had me hopelessly backtracking because I missed a simple turn. Still, cool game if you're into it and likely well worth $8.

Played through Inscryption a couple months ago. Fantastic game, make sure you don't look up spoilers and persevere through the first frustrating hour.

It depends what you're looking for. I feel like it was advertised as a tough action Roguelite with a town building element, but honestly it feels more like a chill town building game with some action Roguelite stuff on the side.

The combat is pretty shallow and got repetitive so it can't lean on that alone, but if you're into chill town builders with good art then it might be your speed.

FWIW, Death's Door is free on Netflix games (if you have a Netflix account). Best played with a controller though, the touchscreen controls can be unresponsive at times. I just beat it, took about 12-ish hours and it made the time on the plane fly by.
